Just a quick question. Will the AMD X2 4200+ run 4 sticks of RAM at 1T command rate and DDR 400 or will it drop to 2T DDR 333 like the A64s did?

Thanks in advance!

Will run all four at DDR400 without a problem.

All of the E6 revision Athlon 64s/X2s/Opterons have the new memory controller. It's only the older E4 revisions (some Athlon 64s) which have that "four sticks" issue.

If it's the right socket (939), it should work. Check the DFI site to see if you need a BIOS update to run an X2 chip though.

The 1T issue depends on a lot of things, although in theory it should work. Some X2s seem to do it fine, others have problems. It's a combination of luck of the draw and the components you have in your system.

Even if it will only run the RAM at 2T, the performance hit is negligible. The main thing is that it will run the all four sticks at DDR400.

You will increase the chances of it running DDR400 @ 1T if you use four sticks that are all matched.

Fyi, i have a A64 x2 3800, with 4 matched GeIL modules. And i could never get it to run at 1t.
But as said, the difference is so small its not even worth worrying about. :).

Ditto. Same setup and mine just locks up when trying to Boot XP or Vista 32bit using 1T.

BTW what speed do you run your Geil @? I overclocked my X2 3800+ to 2.4ghz (first attempt at overclocking tbh) and after reading the guide on here I dropped the memory speed down to 333mhz? Just wondering if it would run at 400 or will I do some damage?

Cheers,

I run mine at 400Mhz, the rated speed.
Theres no reason not to, its designed to run at that speed, so thats what ive got it set at.:).

Dropping it down is just to find the FSB limit for the overclock, you can try putting it back at 400Mhz once you are stable at 333Mhz.

If you do leave the timings at auto, it should then slacken timings enough to reach 400Mhz no problem, once you are there you can manually tighten the memory timings back up to the 400Mhz SPD settings.

It won't do any damage either way. It just won't boot or will reboot windows. But make sure you are not already running the memory at 400Mhz using CPUz and check the memory tab. Some motherboards don't have great memory divider options.
