Evening all,

I've got my car booked into Peugeot tomorrow to have some work done.

I'm supplying the tyres, which are being fitted and fully balanced on my current alloys. I'm also having 4 wheel laser alignment done.

I've been quoted £55. Does that seem like a reasonable price? My current front tyres are verging on illegal (as pointed out by a police officer tonight, but thats another thread) and my tracking is well out, I don't want to ruin a perfectly good set of tyres.

Thoughts?

First thought is why on earth are you taking a 15 year old car to a main dealer?

Take it to a proper, reputable tyre specialist, pay less money, get a better job done.

its 16 years old this year :p

I was at Peugeot anyway picking up a couple of things for my dad, and just asked. I need the tyres done asap.

edit: Also, because my wheels have solid centre caps, not many places around here have the right equipment to balance them.

I live for the day this guy just answers a civil question in a civil manner instead of trying to make the enquirer look like an arse.

I'm used to it from him, he does have a point. See below..

I think that price is slightly high, but I've not had done myself for aaages. Try phoning the big independents and see if you can get it done cheaper? It comes down to whether you get any peace of mind from having it done by a dealer that you don't from an independent, and how much that is worth to you.

One of the reasons i'm taking it there is because, having used that particular dealer for the last couple of years - I've never been let down by them, and they've always offered me good service, even if I do only drive a £250 16 year old motor.

For the way I told a mate not to go to a main dealer?

Geez and people say *I* need to get out more

He can't see that, you've been 'ignored' :p

Going to ring a couple of places in the morning, if the price is somewhat similar then i'll just stick with the dealer, I don't mind paying a little extra for piece of mind :)

£55 sounds quite reasonable if it includes the tracking. You might get it marginally cheaper at ATS, Kwikfit, et al but it's probably not worth the effort.

I'm not a fan of big independants. 'National Tyres' - despite offering me a good deal on tyres, they fitted the wrong balancing weights, which fouled with the calipers on my old XS. damaged the caliper

Is it basically just tracking you're having done or is it complete 4 wheel geometry? Sounds a bit pricey for tracking but for a proper geometry check its actually pretty cheap. Dont know about your car but certainly with mine only a main steeler can do the geometry checks anyway.

I specifically asked for '4 wheel laser alignment' - not sure what that covers. I'll check tomorrow :)

Sorry to drag this up..

Due to lack of time on friday, I couldn't get the tracking done. Now, the book settings for my car are 20 toe out, give or take 10. Its currently at 30. SHould I get it set to anything different, or just stick to book settings?
