So it's been four years and apart from a minor upgrade involving selling my 5870 to a friend to get a gtx 570, nothing in my system has changed.

I bought it as one of the 'Ultima' complete systems from OcUK mid 2010. This time around I'm looking to play expensive lego and build it myself.

Case: Antec 902
PSU: Corsair TX750W
MOBO: Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
CPU: i7-930 @ 3.8
RAM: 6GB DDR3 Patriot 1600mHz.
GPU: Asus GTX570
Creative SB X-fi sound card
Storage: Crucial M4 SSD 128 GB
1 TB HDD
CPU cooler: thermaltake Frio OCK

Noise can be an issue when under stress, temps seem to reach ~72c.

Definite changes:

-Case
-250+GB SSD (Poss 500)
-2TB HDD
-2560x1600 monitor (not included in budget)

Unsure:

-CPU
-MOBO
-GPU
-RAM

Price range is ~£900-1000
May be in the US this summer, in which case the budget will go 10-20% further on all but case.

From what I've read around on the forums, waiting for intel's new release and associated mobos is wise.

dont bother upgrading until we see a noticable performance bump on cpu's. right now clock for clock the latet cpu are only 20-30% faster if that and not many game warrant that extra beef

Are you facing any issues with ram currently. I think it would be wise to get a new Case, and maybe a GPU if you need the extra power, most of the rest is pretty solid still and could last you another gen.

New GPU
New monitor
New case

Should keep you going for a while longer :) that CPU is still pretty decent i am still using an i7-920 and don't plan on changing it any time soon:p

Yup, considering selling whatever gets replaced.

Alright so new case; GPU; thinking more ram couldn't hurt. Sit on the CPU/mobo for now. Think I might still get a new SSD.

760 and not 4GB 770?

Getting a new GPU, bigger SSD and more RAM is a good start, especially if you're gonna be running in 2560x1600, probably be worth upping the OC on your CPU if you can get a better heat sink & fan/watercooling as well. Is the upgrade for gaming only or are you going to be doing stuff like video editing as well?

You could also get some thermal paste and apply a new application. Remove cooler and clean of the old paste on the Cpu and cooler. Run the cooler under the tap and give it a good clean. Whilst you are waiting for it to dry, clean all your fans, if they need doing. Then add new paste and refit cooler. Might see a difference in temps.
