Basically, stuck in choosing between

Sony 40KDLW705C (£389)
Samsung UE40H6400 (£399)

or a 4K LG IPS panel (£550)

For Sky HD, Blu-Ray, no gaming, BBC iplayer/netflix. No 3D.

Will be watching a lot of sports/films and will be used during the day in a bright environment (Should I put down extra cash to get an LG IPS 4K screen?)

Will be in the corner of a room so viewing angles are probably at worst case 35-40 degrees off centre (will IPS be better?)

Any advise would be welcome.

If 40" is your max ( which was my option as well ) , i'd pick a 4k set all day long . Got a Samsung 4k set of amazon Germany for £408 very happy with it :)

Samsung UE40JU6000 4K Ultra HD Smart LED quick look is £499

LG 40UF770V 4K Ultra HD £528

PANASONIC VIERA TX-40CX400B Smart 3D Ultra HD 4k £449

An interesting move there to shop with amazon germany, had a quick check but after conversion the set I want to go for JU6400 still ends up £600+ so not worth it.

But yeah I hear you gotta keep trying some amazon euro sites have better prices after conversion they even delivery from amazon centers based in wales and scotland even !

Which 4K samsung set did you get ?

If topic starter can wait till end of next months black friday, you maybe able to snag a decent deal online.....

john lewis and currys and pretty much everyone else will be offering good discounts, that is if you can wait !

Otherwise would recommend the Samsung JU6400 series its a solid compromise between all the tech and excellent PQ, its still better to get yourself down to JL or currys and actually see the sets in person especially with viewing angles and colours, blacks are concerned. I found the JU6400 series to be affordable (550+) the other sets were too pricey but liked nice just not worth it imo.

I picked up the samsung UE50JU6550 4k set . Was a big promo going on with those TV's on amazon Germany and had it at a stupid price . Found the offer on hotukdeals

Strange I visit hotuk deals often daily, must have missed that deal but yeah see many using german & france rainforest to get decent prices on electronics oddly being shipped from Scotland or north England rainforest warehouses.

The one you got is very good especially for 400 quid, but not a fan of curved myself prefer the flat ones :)

The best hotuk deal I missed out on was samsungs direct site where they had 50% off most top end TVs including the JU series across the board, but the deals lasted minutes everything went out of stock the one I wanted JU6400 was only £350!

I'd go Sony personally. 4K at this size makes no sense to me when that sort of money could get you something 10" bigger instead.

Well we ended up buying some white card and making a mock up, turns out we had a few CM to play with so ended up getting

Sony KDLW43755C for £480.

Always a good idea to make a mock up we have done this with everything from Sofas to TV's!

Er - No. Reason? Check to see where its made. If it says made/assembled in Turkey on the box or on the back of the telly then there's a good chance it will be a Vestel based model. Don't buy a Vestel made telly, they are made to a price & not very good.

If you want a Panasonic telly look for a Czech made one.

Just sent back an A400B, which was Czech made. It was awful, but granted it was cheap as well.

Oh dear. My panny is Czech made, aebit a 3 year old one. I'm quite happy with it despite the fact its out of date featurewise compared with the models out this year.
