ok, so as this is my first attempt at xfire im a complete and utter noob at this and hoping there is a simple answer.

basically I cant get my GPU usage to go over 40-50 % in bf3

my specs are

i5 3570k @4.7
7970 x 2 1200/1500
z77xd3h

I run bf3 @ ultra 1080p 120hz everything on max excl motion blur

ive just done a complete driver sweep and reinstall and reinstalled after burner

when running benchies both cards get maxed out but I just cant work it out for bf?

hope someone can help ive basically got my DSR period to make this work or the new card is gonna have to go back

bah I never thought it would be this bad

also the game seems to run like pooh, felt like it was running better on one card, any suggestions?

if a cpu upgrade is req I guess the card will be going back!

ive tried with and without v synch, even tried radeon pro [alltho I don't really know what im doing] tried following a few guides such as setting flip que size to 1 etc but nothings making any difference!

fps im seeing as high as 200 and as low as 50!

tbh ive notice erratic using with my one 7970 recently, maybe I should try a reinstall of bf?

ive just tried again dropping my clocks incase it was an instability problem but the usage stayed the same.

and also as I said earlier pretty choppy!

im re-downloading bf3 atm so wont be able to try and suggestions until tomorrow but any help is appreciated tbh,

Ok i reinstalled bf last night (20 gbs download :s) and had a quick 10 mins. Game felt 100x smoother and usage was up to 50-60%, had to set the ingame frame limiter as i was seeing 80-250+fps and some tearing. Turned vsynch on and now its running 80-120fps . Will have another play this afternoon as didnt really get much time and report back

Out of interest what do the caps do? Ive never used/installed them before

Steve

ok so im back from work, just downloaded the latest caps and am gonna try BF with the same settings as I have been using

as you can see pretty poor usage, and looks my cpu is flat out, I guess there is a bottleneck?

[temp differences are because card one is watercooled]

ok, the next question is gona be, can I simply buy an i7 and use my existing board etc or is it really not worth it and I should send the second 7970 back :(

You'd be best going second hand, 280 for a 3770k is more than a 4770k after selling grid 2.

cheapest I can find them at [new] is £260.

don't really fancy buying a second hand proc, at the end of the day unless you know the seller or they are a member on here, its very likely to be someone elses overclocking reject!

I'd probably sell the board too and go 1150 in your shoes, which I did myself as I'm pretty much always going to remain single gpu and ended up just buying a 4670k and a board, the upgrade ended up costing me about 40 quid.

unfortunately that still wont help me as the 4670k is non hyperthreaded and would seemingly bottleneck me aswell.

and the i7 haswells are £260 ish then id need a new mboard etc so would work out more expensive in the end!.

I dont get why you would want more gpu usage ? are your fps that low? my fps on low settings is 195, why would you want more regardless of gpu usage ?

as I said in my opening post I play bf with everything Ultra/ max [excl motion blur] and my frames drop to 80fps in some places, with more gpu usage id expect them to stay around the 120fps Im after. also im getting stuttering which is due to the CPU being unable to keep up with the cards

swaying towards sending the card back on DSR tbh.
