Looking for somthing that i can upgrade a year or so along the line.
This will be my first build so any pointers would be helpful.
Will pretty much be using the build for gaming, movies etc.
would like an intel i5 3.1mhz... not really looking at over clocking atm so i assume a stock fan would do. And I know the case is a personal thing but if you guys see somthing windowed and shiny lemme see :)

Also i wasn't including the OS.

Pushing it a bit, but this will be the ultimate system for your budget (sort of). Let me tell you why.

You can Overclock the CPU in the future, more performance

Able to upgrade to an Ivy CPU, more performance.

Able to Add another 8GB of RAM, more performance.

And... Shiny Shiny See-through case. :)

I have gone over but the i5K is overclockable (its dead easy to do) the z77 mobo uses the IGP to boost the GPU. That 6850 can be overclocked aswell im sure to get some more power from it. PSU is modular and a good price whilst on offer. Case has lots to like for the price.

Hope this helps, any questions fire away :)

Yeah kinda but there are some big differences ;)

My HDD is B grade so has a shorter warranty obviously. I didn't get a B grade mobo as again its a shorter warranty and sata cables etc could be missing. The 3 year warranty was worth the extra expense in my eyes.

The PSU is modular and on offer, I have used the CM units before they are good and quiet. The case (I also own) is an excellent bargain on offer with 4 120mm fans, fan controller, digital temp display and cable management (included P4/8 lead).

I dont know anything about that RAM you spec'd. So i stuck with the stuff I know.....in blue to match the colour theme :)

Thanks you gus are awesome :D
I knew that my price range was pretty unreasonable but hey, never hurts to try :P
I Threw together my own mock up last night but wasn't really to sure on it. Quite surprised on a few of the similaraties :D Just a few questions though;

I chose a similar CPU as you guys, but the one I have doesn't have the unlock multiplier. What is it? and why is there no price differance for it?
Also with the PSU how exactly do i work out the wattage i would require? and I do prefer the look of moddular ones :)

Also thanks a lot. This is much appretiated!

The "K" denotes that it is multiplier unlocked. On a mobo that allows overclocking (such as the Z series), you can up the mulitiplier to get faster speeds. Setting the multiplier to 40 would give you 4Ghz. To reach higher speeds you would need an aftermarket heatsink to help keep temps in check.

It would be nice to have the ivybridge 3570K as it uses less power has a better IGP and enables the PCI-E 3 lane to function at full speed :)

500w is the minimum recommended PSU for a single GPU setup. Higher rated PSUs are usually spec'd on SLI/Xfire capable setups
