hi,

Am currently running 2 x 280 GTX sli with 3 x 24" monitors at a res of 5040 x 1050 (currently only get 25-30fps)

I play rift, wow and racing games like NFS

now ive got £400 to use but whats the best way to go, I know 1 thing i want to stick to Nvidia

so do I go for 1 high end one or 2 lower?

Main limiting factor is going to be your PSU, otherwise cooling permitted I would say 2 GTX480's (i know you can only buy 1 at the weekend deal price of £200) so would cost £20 over budget. From your monitor setup your likely to benefit from an SLI/crossfire setup and given that this may require an expensive 1000w or so PSU you may not be able to fit this into your £400 budget? Does the £400 include an money realised by sale of current gpu (and possibly PSU?)

Also your long in the tooth overclocked Q6600, motherboard and 4gb DDR2 system memory will also start to become a serious limiting factor if you are looking at a substantial GPU upgrade..........

Thinking about it if you can find an extra £50-60 from the sale of your current stuff or elsewhere maybe a 3072mb GTX 580 would be your best option given your res? Could always add a second later if required? If you want to stay with NVIDIA I cant really see that you would be able to get much of an upgrade for less than £400...

Other than the one above, twin 470s really fly

As aluded to above one NVIDIA GPU can only (currently) power 2 displays with SLI being needed for 3 displays. This may change with the upcoming 590GTX as its going to be sli'd GPU's on one card but its likely that this will retail for well over £500. The dual 470's look like a good option if the poster wants to keep his current monitor setup but I doubt his current PSU is up to the task of powering two of them (225w TDP each) on top of his overclocked CPU and other bits so will have to factor in a replacement PSU of at least 850W

At that res you would want 2 Gb at least.

What about a pair of 2 Gb GTX 560s? Palit make some, but OCUK dont have stock yet.
