Hey, I'm looking to spend around £400 on a laptop that I'll mainly be using for uni work (which tends towards computation stuff rather than word processing). Other than that it'll be used for iTunes, movies (HDMI out would be nice), surfing etc.

Not bothered about gaming, I have a good PC and I wouldn't game on a laptop anyway.

Anyone got any suggestions? Would probably prefer using some kind of outlet (like the dell one) so I can get better for cheaper.

Thanks!

My one piece of advice is get something portable, so 12 or 13", although they are usually more expensive.

I got the Apsire one from Acer. It's very light and compact and therefore would be great for taking to university. However I find mine is sometimes very slow, but maybe thats because I have gotten too use to my Macbook!

I'm not going to be taking it to university with me too often, so the size of it is not a big issue!

I was thinking I might increase the budget to £500 but I'm not sure.

If you're not taking it into uni much then why get one if you already have a computer?

The whole point of getting a laptop when at uni if you already have a computer is so you don't have to use the useless uni computers and work in the library. :p
