Currently running E2180 on a crappy ASRock mobo.

Is this a decent idea? Or should I go for something else? Main use is gaming and uni work and I already have a 8800GT.

What sort of uni work? Id personally say save yourself £70 and get a dual core E8500, unless your uni work invovles any sort of coding in which case yeah stick with the quad, its faster clock for clock and unless you do any of this sort of work you wont really feel the benefit of four slower cores over two faster ones.
Id also recomend getting PC8500 RAM, the mobo and PSU look good though

I'm doing Software Engineering at uni, so you're spot on. :D
