I'm looking for a £400.00 upgrade on the system I currently have. It's been about 5 and a half years since I got this current one. Even Football Manager is starting to slow down on it

Currently I have:

Asus P5K-SE/EPU Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
Corsair HX 520W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply (CMPSU-520HXUK)
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency Dual Channel (GX22GB6400UDC)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail
OcUK ATI Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Cheers

I may be wrong but I believe the i3 is a dual core with 2 extra threads, and the i5 has 4 physical cores. Again, I may be wrong so don't quote me on it. I'd say it is worth it if you will be doing a lot of gaming.

Is the difference between the i3 and i5 big? Is it worth stumping up the extra cash for it?

The i3 is a dual core with Hyperthreading (faux quad core), the i5 is a true quadcore CPU. I used the K CPU as it's unlocked and has a better IGP.

On the Z77 mobos you have overclocking support for K CPUs. Expect ~4Ghz from the stock cooler. Put on a decent aftermarket heatsink for £30ish lets say and you can expect to get ~4.4Ghz.....a 1GHz OC is not to be sniffed at.

Seeing as you cop free games with the GPU it might help you justify spending a little more on the CPU ;)

I've decided to build a new PC all together and come up with the below:

Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with Crysis 3 & Bioshock PC Games
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - OEM
Gigabyte Z77X-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2)
Corsair Carbide 200R Compact ATX Case - Black
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3X2K2/8GX)

I've already got a monitor, HDD, Keyboard & mouse.

It'll cost around £680.00 currently.

Does it all seem to go together ok? Will the Corsair HX 520W ATX PSU be ok for this system or should I order a new one?
