The pc will mainly be used for the playback of HD media and a small amount of video editing. Apart from that it would just be the usual day to day pc stuff and not for games so gfx card is not important at the moment.

I currently have an AMD system as in sig but would be selling that and using the money to hopefully put together something a little better.

So..decisions decisons..do I stick with AMD or go the intel route?

A hard drive is not needed as already have that.
I would like to overclock but have no idea what cpu's are overclocking well or what mobo to pair it with at the moment, all help is much appreciated.

Thanks

Cheers, stuck a different case on, but that can be changed to a personal choice :)

Comparison between the two below, you should get 4ghz~ with the above.

TBH Your Phenom II 940 rig as per your signature is still a very capable rig given your uses. I'd say hold the funds and add a little over time until you can make a real leap after Bulldozer and the next sockets arrive early next year.

Yeah I was pretty much thinking this but I have the itch to get my hands on some shiny new tech..

if you have the itch to get your hand on some "new" tech then wait for the 6xxx series and mainstream intel cpus :D

its bad news getting the itch

i just blew 1250quid on a new system when i could have waited lol

i had a q6600 and upgraded to a phenom x6

i should have just overclocked the q6600 and waited

nevermind im really happy with my new computer though

The 'itch' lol. I know what you mean but you need to discipline yourselves and stick to a schedule. Typically I upgrade my whole PC every 3 years with a video card upgrade every 18 months, that’s not ridged because if there’s a new CPU or video card just around the corner I can wait a little while and find out if it’s any good.
