I know this is a tough question to give an exact answer to, but once the new 5000 series cards are announced this month, how much of a drop on 4000 series cards should we be expecting? If we compare it to previous iteration of cards.

I've eager to get a new PC built, my current one is 5 years old, and I'm looking at a 4080 super.

Just not sure whether to hold on for a price reduction, or even just wait for the 5070/5080 which might not be much more?

I'm pretty out of the loop on this stuff!

I wouldn’t have thought they’ll be that much stock kicking about when the 50** cards come out, but hopefully they’ll be some deals to be had (but probably not).

Nvidia have too much of a stranglehold on the entire GPU market to care about reducing prices and need to worry about scaring off any "competition". They'll continue to push the xx80 and xx90 cards towards the $2000+ price, and whatever discounts they give the previous generation, it'll be crumbs probably in the region of ~£50.

Note also that the £ has weaken against the $ in recent months, which would also go against a price reduction.

Thanks all.

So maybe I should just go ahead and get a 4080s build on order now then.

Looking forward to a new PC, probably don't want to wait too much longer.

Not even sure when 5080 will be readily available.

We have three days to wait before we know the value proposition and what its effect will be on second hand prices. Just wait a little longer IMO.

Will be interesting to see the value of the 4080 super after the announcement. I'll be selling my 4080 Super to get either a 4090 or 5090. would probably expect upwards of £500 for it second hand with limited use and no overclocking.

How can you prove to anyone it had limited use and the didn't oc it, though? Not that it really matters anyway these days, as with so many safeguards and overbuilt cooling in these cars it's hard to push them hard enough to damage anything anyway.

Don't buy anything yet. Get your post count up then watch the MM for 4000 series cards. I suspect there will be quite a few going when the refresh hits.
