Seen this advertised, wondered if it would be a good buy as a small, lightweight second body to my 5D set up.... and or for the girlfriend to use.
Price is body only.

Thats about average that ive seen when looking around.. If not below average, good price anyway, cant see you getting much better then that, have a quick gander at the auction site n compare prices..

it would've been average price for a 1000d not for a 450d, especially not after the price increases of late though!

Yep it's £269 Delivered...."Stock plenty" not going to risk saying where, even a hint would be obvious.....
Would it be worth getting, I like the 5D (ok still think Nikon controls are easy more intuitive etc) But it is quite big/heavy and makes travel, especially flying awkward to pack sometimes..... When you need to laptop etc as well.
Thinking I could put my 50mm F1.4 on a 400D, and pack it much easier. Then I have no excuse not to take more pictures.

My other thought is I want to sell off my Sigma 170-500 as I don't use it. For a longer reach, the crop sensor on a 400D plus the 70-300IS I have would be Ok.

Then perhaps one day a 70-200 L for the 5D would be nice...........

Crazy, you see one email advert, and start reworking your whole camera set up !! LOL

You can get a Canon refurb with warranty with kit lens for that price, so no, it's not an amazing deal for only the body. If that's new though, it's pretty good.

Brand new, inc Special Delivery...........
How does it compare with the 5D ?

How does a 400D compare with a 5D??

Well, apparantly not very well, surely the price difference gives that away..

Isnt the 5D a professional camera?400D is around the price you were quoted and the 5D is around £1800 body only iirc..

the 5D is a 12mp full frame camera, MUCH better than a 450D and worth about £700-800 nowadays. It's not a pro body though, high end enthusiast!

Can people read !!!!.......... I never said or would be ditching the 5D, the 400, as SECOND BODY, as a lightweight easier travel option, and possible to use instead of big lenses, or let the girlfriend use it !!!!......

Ha, you see most people in here may have posted more than once, so after the op we wont remember much until we read our own last comments down..

So people may have forgotton about the op, like i did :D

5D> 400D :p

My bad, your post a few replies down gave me the impression you were replacing. Anyway, whats wrong with the 5D? Stop being a girl and take the 5d everywhere. :p

I would rather duck tape a 5D to my arm than use a 400d.

Have you ever tried to fly on Rynair, with a laptop and a 5D Kit, in one bag the right size and not be over 10Kg !!!......Plus not sure I want to parade 4K worth of kit around a Polish high street sometimes !!!
I doubt I will ever see the need to replace the 5D, for sure it's a "proper" camera and does what I can ask of it........ Was tempted by the apparent low prices of something smaller and lighter to compliment what I have, and add some options.... Ie a crop sensor can be useful for long range shots of over a full frame.

I have 2 x 400D's and never had a problem with them... You might want to get a cheap knock off grip for it debending on your hand size as the body alone is quite small.

I've used mine all the way from Galapagos Islands, Amazon Rainforest to Kenya on Safari and think it's an execelent camera in the first place, you can't go wrong for a 2nd body.

I think I know where you saw this!!.. they have a 40D with a 17-55 f2.8 for £969 too!!... (if its the same place which I won't hint at as I don't want a holiday!!)...

Seriously considering the 400D at £469 as other shops are selling the 1000D (body only) for £274 after the cash back!...

Whats the advantages/disadvantages of the 400D to the 1000D???... :)

I'm venturing into dSLR's for the first time from my EOS33v (film Camera) which I already have lenses/filters etc... so only need the body!!..

I have a 400d, its a good quality camera. But if you can find a 450d/1000d for a similar price get that as they have live view on the LCD (so you can see what your shooting live like on most point and shoot cameras) which the 400d doesn't have. Benefit of the 1000d over the other 2 is its a fair bit lighter, about 200g i think and its a newer model so you've got more reliability.

But for a 'Proper' photographer (sorry) what benifit is 'Live View'???...

Any other pro's the 1000D has over the 400D??... I'm reeeealy leaning toward the 400 at the mo!!..

Plus coming from a 33v (ally body, largeish frame) the 1000 might feel like a toy!..
