Hey Guys,
I'm heading off to Southern Africa (South Africa, Botswana and Namibia) in about a week and a half for two weeks.

Obviously, i'm going to be taking my aged 400D for much photo-takage.
Now, I'm fairly sure that the stock battery won't last the whole two weeks and i'm unsure as to what sort of electrical facilities will be available.

What i had planned to do was buy a "Canon" (;)) BG-E3 and fill it with six 2000mAh Eneloops.

Does anyone know how long this ought to last?

the BG-E3 fits either two of the standard Li-Ion batteries or six AAs in a battery magazine.

Buy some additional 3rd party batteries, you will get much better life out of a the LiIon than the NmHI standard rechargeable.

i don't trust 3rd party Li-ion batteries. i've experienced how crap they are first hand :p

Also, this way i can use regular alkalines in an "emergency" and also use the eneloops in other things.

I know, I try to avoid 3rd party batteries after 1 nearly destroyed my D70.

However, last year I lost 4 official Nikon batteries so grudgingly replaced 2 of them and purchased another 3 or 4 Energizer batteries.

well, the 400D is quite old, so any lithium batteries out there probably have a lot of shelf-life left on them.

Eneloops are a better option i think. :)

never had a problem with 3rd party batteries!
however if you have a grip and buy 4 batteries you should be sorted to the next pint of charge and if anythnig goes wrong its going to be the grip that takes the brunt, surely!

I bought the Grip and the Eneloops, those batteries are quite reasonably priced, i may add a couple of those too...

I hope the grip arrives by the 23rd otherwise it'll be all for naught :(
