I want up upgrade from my 1050 to something a little more powerful.
Needs to be quiet (fans cutting out when not in use is very important) and do not play games.
I'm looking at this sort of thing -

Am I on the right track, and are there other things I need to consider.
Budget is around £250, which will mean I can also soon replace my hdd storage drive with an M2
Any help and advice much appreciated, as I'm a total beginner with all this.
Oh, and does anyone know if there is any advantage is of one fan or two in this sort of case - I assume they are pretty much the same in terms of cooling and noise, so is it more about space in one's case ?

Are you sure that your software is using the graphics card meaningfully?

I know that some of the newer features do (especially AI), but photo editing was historically mainly a 2D app and didn't need much beyond a basic display adapter.

Hmm, if your card is always idle then probably not, but if the card is used fully it can reach 100+ watts and I'd imagine that's going to be easier to cool with a 2 fan card than a 1 fan card. A good fan card could potentially be quite effective, like it has a chunky heatsink and uses heat pipes, but I can't comment on the Zotac.

No, I'm not sure that my software is using the graphics card correctly, and have no idea how to find out!
Looking at task manager nothing seems to be really stressed, but if im editing and listening to radio paradise the music stutters and generally acdsee (my editing software) seems to take ages to open, and seems to be much slower than previous versions of it..
Oh, and thank you for your reply!

Hmm, interesting. This happens even though task manager is showing nothing as being used?

What about your memory usage, how much is used by acdsee? What is the commit charge?

Can you tell us the rest of your specs, e.g. CPU, RAM, HDD/SSD?

From what you describe, I suspect your problem is not the graphics card.

Thank you for your help and replies - I'll respond in the morning with all the details - got visitors this evening..

OK, a couple of screenshots of Taskmaster while editing a picture.
Opening up ACDSee only takes a couple of seconds, but to go into Edit or Develop takes about 14 seconds, and then while adjusting sliders audio stutters (as mentioned above, radio paradise etc)
System info -
Graphics card is an Nvidea GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Motherboard is an Asus Rog Strix B5050-I with 32gb RAM
I have an SSD for the system, a hard drive for storage.

Nothing looks to be working too hard, the CPU does most of what little work there is, and given my ignorance of all things computer I was assuming the Graphics card might be the limiting factor..
If you have any suggestions then please explain in little words that even I might understand!

How is your audio set up? Does it come through the jacks on the motherboard, or are you using HDMI/DP through the 1050 Ti?

I'm not sure why it stutters while adjusting sliders, if your CPU isn't hitting 100% then I see no reason why it should.

Since I don't know what is causing the problem, I'm afraid I can't suggest the part that would address it. In theory: the graphics card (if you aren't using HDMI/DP for sound) shouldn't have any bearing on the audio stutter and since you have a fast 6 core CPU, it would take heavy usage to cause stutter there too.

I'm using the motherboard for audio, and it's all a mystery but I'm grateful for the help and advice given.
I was planning to get a new m2 drive soon, and may just see if I can find a second hand graphics card to try that too (by the way, how many posts do I need to make to be able to access the market place - I used to be able to years ago but changed my email and forgot my sign-in details..)

Honestly, I'd be more inclined to try an external USB soundcard than another graphics card, but I guess you never know.

RE: posts, far too many for you I'm afraid, this PC will probably be in a dump somewhere by the time you qualify.
