4080&4090 cable

Elaborate, sesonic gives one kind of pin and msi gives another kind of 8 pin ::)
The adapter you get with a card is if for 8 pin pcie, thats a standard for 150W.
The one Seasonic gives you is for 8pin on psu connector which is not standarized, but most manufacturers match it to 8pin EPS standard(the cable for CPU) which is rated for 366w.
Hence 2x8pin from Seasonic should be safe for a minimum of 2x366W = 722W, while 3x8pin pcie adapter is only safe(theoretically, in reality more) for 3x150W=450w

Nothing will go wrong. Its a myth created by garbage psus. As long as its 16awg cable it will easily handle 400W on 1 daisy chained cable if needed.
The same cable is rated for 366W for CPU.
the cable i've bought is 18AWG, afaik 18AWG gauge copper wire is rated for 2.3A @ 120V or 279 watts. so 2 of them should be enough for a 450W 4090?

Are you the one who bought from cablemod? It would have been better to take 3x8pin from them - they even sell 4x8pin(which is crazy - more than 1000W capacity)
18awg should be fine but it is a bit borderline though. 16awg has ~4 times capacity of 18awg.
With 16awg bottleneck is the connector itself, with 18awg bottleneck is the wire.

I wouldn't want 18 AWG!

mdpc-x say a high quality 17 AWG is OK to leave space for sleeving but 16 is the actual spec.
"18 AWG would be too far away from original specs in terms of electrical capacities and shouldn't be used if you don't want to risk your hardware."

The guides in the description for the connector are good for anyone wanting to make their own sleeved adapters up.

no i haven't bought from cablemod, i bought this from amazon :

i didn't know about awg etc before, it turns out it's 18awg.

Aaah
Interesting that they make it 18awg, thats brave of them :) I guess it is to make cable more bendable.

btw buying that PSU a few months ago has probably saved you some good $$$ have you seen the prices now?
I kept posting on here saying the new PSU will probably be like £200

I posted this back in July and at the same time bought a 1000watt gold rated seasonic rebanded psu from Phanteks
Phanteks AMP PSUs are good too, mostly seasonic rebrands

yea and they will likely boost the price off them to be in line with other pc components so £200+ milking the enthusiasts
