Hello everyone,

Today I recieved my Lian Li PC-O11DXL-1 Riser Cable + PCI-E Bracket Kit for PC-O11D ROG Series
to mount my Palit Game Rock 4090 GPU.

The case I am using is a Lian Li O11 Dynamic XL (ROG Certified) Aluminium Full-Tower - Black

The motherboard I am using is a Gigabyte Z790 Aorus Master (LGA 1700) DDR5 EATX Motherboard

I was advised to buy this mount by the over clockers team, however when I plug my GPU into the extension that comes with the mount (the extension is sat into my main pcie 5.0 slot.) I lose a ton of performance, I tried it in one of my pcie 4.0 slots and I lose even more performance.

Once I plug my GPU directly back into my pcie 5.0 my gpu works as normal.

Is this extension cable not compatible? Have I wasted my money or am I doing something wrong?

Thank you in advance.

Read the spec on your riser. If its a PCIE 3.0 riser then it will only run at 3.0 speeds. PCI-E is backwards compatible so its not uncompatabible if its works, its just bandwidth limited.

You also need to read your motherboard manual to understand how the bandwidth for each slot works. Plugging other PCI-E devices can limit bandwidth too.

The Nvidia 4090 is only 4.0 so won't run at 5.0 speeds. You just need a PCIE 4.0 riser cable for it.

You can use GPU-Z to see what speed the Bus Interface is running at. You want PCI-E 4.0 x16 ideally.

It sounds like you have bought the correct PCI bracket btw, its just an older case which is why it includes an older spec riser cable.

If you were going to return it I think this one is compaibible too and includes a 4.0 cable, its pre order though.

Hey, thanks for all this info. So when I checked the specs and requirements got my GPU it says a PCIE 5.0 slot? Are you sure 4.0 would work with my card? I could be looking at the wrong details.

I think you might be mixing up the GPU spec with the motherboard spec which will have a PCIE 5.0 slot. Nvidia 40 series are all PCIE 4.0 and PCIE is backwards compatible which is why they work in a PCIE 5.0 slot. I don't think there are any PCIE 5.0 GPUs yet.

I'm running a PCIE 4.0 riser with a Z790 PCIE5.0 slot too its fine.

Yes I am. Thank you ever so much for your time. I'll arrange for return of the item and await the 4.0 version. Unless the riser cables are cheap to replace alone. Atleast it's only cosmetic and all works well anyway. Whilst I have you here, I'd like to ask you about a 12vhpwr pcie 5.0 extension cable? Do you know of any male to female extensions. The cable that came with my gpu is short and ugly which is ways visible when looking into the case.

You can get the riser cables alone for not too much if you shop around, got mine from a popular chinese website for about £20 as needed a really short one.

Just make sure it mounts the same way as the one in your mount, they are not all the same (some screw in vertically rather than horizontally)
