4090 Power limit vs undervolt?

Hello
i've seen different videos about it. some advice to undervolt, other to limit power slider.
i've limited the power slider to 80% without any FPS loss but that does not help another issue : coil whine.
Does undervolting works fine on 4090 and will limitt watts as well?

Undervolting will decrease power draw.
I've personally got my power limit set to 70% as per Der8auer's recommendation.
Definitely the way to go imo. No point wasting power especially in this climate.

does limiting the power also limit voltage actually? My card doesn't draw more than 380w at 80% but the coil whine is still there

Oddly enough I'm finding that from a 'tweakers' point of view the 4090 has been the most boring card in a few generations

Don't get me wrong I think my 4090FE is fantastic, but tweaking the power limit, clock speeds, etc doesn't seem to be as good as the stock settings. Nvidia just seem have got it right, straight out of the box (for me anyway).

Pre tweaked by an algorithm for your convenience, seems CPUs are the same these days

I’m too scared to check. Not seen any smoke so I take that as a positive.

Apparently all that does is use more power and not give any meaningful performance uplift.
That's what I'm hearing from the experts anyway.

Yep I think you’re right based on the few extra FPS I saw.

Yeah, the 4090 out of the box is operating very close to the flat part of the frequency vs power curve.
