Currently running this setup and wondered if im going to be presented with any problems when going to the new 4090 series.

Corsair 500d case - space, ok? no vertical mounted GPU as the case only allows two slots? or am i wrong.

Intel 9900k - Auto overclocked - still enough grunt for gaming and the GPU won't be bottle necked?

Asus rog Maximums XI Hero - again bottle necks here?

corsair 32gb RAM - guess this is still plenty for gaming

970 pro M.2

Monitor is an LG running 3440x1440

And the old GFX card is a 2080FE

New PSU enroute as my 750w corsair isnt upto the job - gone to a HX1500 :)

Any thoughts, advice welcomed.

Mark

is the monitor 144hz? if so the cpu is probably fine for like 95% of games, if its a higher refresh rate screen then cpu will bottleneck more and more
best to try it out in the games you play then make a judgement call on upgrading anything else

HX1500 is really overkill :D

Thanks for the replies, yes, the monitor is 144hz. So, bottle neck yes, worth upgrading no.

Case wise, thanks for that i had no idea.

Now to find a case with as good airflow as my 500d.

Get the Phanteks P600S, you can thank me later. :)

9900k will be very bottlenecked, I was running a 9700k at 5.2ghz and got quite a big bump in fps at 1440p going to a 12600k@5ghz with a 3080, a 4090 is going to be some crazy big bottlenecking at 1440p with a 9 series CPU

did the 9700k at 5.2ghz not manage to keep 144 fps? with v-sync off obviously it'll be very cpu limited

Corsair 7000X is great if you want to stick with Corsair.

Which card, I have a 4090FE in the 500d se no problem, is the se case not the same just with a glass panel on the front.
You'd have to check the width - I have a Gigabyte 4090 Master and it was too wide, I'm not sure how it compares to the FE unfortunately.

Here's my Zotac 4090 in my Fractal Torrent

There's enough room for the GPU cable to be stress-free. I'll still be buying a 90 degree or 180 degree adapter when they appear.

You can get brand new 6900XT's for £750 - would be a great card for your resolution. Cheapest Nvidia card available with that sort of performance is £1150.

Thanks for all the replies, after doing some rough measurements it does look like the 4090 won't fit especially with the 35- 45mm drop for the power cable.

Case wise im looking at the Lian Li 011 Dynamic XL just for a change from the several corsairs ive owned and i like the thought an upright GPU install might be fun. - Cannot find the upright GPU bracket yet though.

From a monitor refresh rate point mine is actually capped at 120hz due to it running through a capture card so im hoping the 9900k won't be too obtrusive at 3440x1400

I mean coming from a 2080fe it's still a fair leap, right?

oh god yeah huge upgrade. New CPU is more about min/maxing your setup and fixing specific game issues i.e. MSFS and CP2077 are pretty CPU intensive
