Well i've been having a few problems with my other pc recently (my mum and sisters one) in that it keeps shutting down at random. However I have nailed this down to the fact it starts to get too hot when left on for a long period of time (50-53 idle and 58-55 load).

I've taken a few pics to help out with the whole thoughts of things, Basically, as the case is smaller then most, there's isn't enough space at the back for me to easily cut out and fit a 80mm fan in. However, I was thinking of using 4 40mm fans instead as these would be much easier to fit.

Would they give the same amount of CFM and provide the desired effect?

40mm fans will sound awful.

Thanks for the Windows 98 SE product key though (4th pic)!

I know you would hope that nobody on here whould pinch that, but you really should erase it.

Back on topic.
40mm fans will show no massive benefit and put out a lot of noise at the same time. You best bet would be to use 80mm fans or get a single 120 and 7 volt it for silence.

If someone wants to take that code, they can coz I no longer use it. So it'd be no hindrance to me.

Incase you haven't noticed, there isn't that much space to fit a fan in there anyway. Its a micro case which is why I was thinking of using 40mm.

First I would move the pc out of that bay thing, really looks like it dont have much room to exhaust its hot air and is probably drawing it back in as it does escape from that bay.

You should be able to fit an 80mm fan in there in the top without too much of a problem. Will out strip 4x40mm fans anyday of the week.

Also, as mentioned above - get it clear of any enclosure its sat in, get it so it can exhaust air properly.

Well its fine in its enclosure :) I've had it out and it doesn't seem to be that much cooler. There isn't enough air in the case to allow for good airflow.

If i fitted an 80mm on the top, I assume it'd be exhaust?

According to AMD's spec sheets, the K7 Semprons are rated up to a maximum temperature of 85(T)-90(V) depending on model code, and the K8 Semprons are rated at 69-70 degrees.

Really the system should be stable with the cpu at 55-58 degrees underload.

Whats the ambient temperature of the system?

Well obvioulsy when you turn it on its cooler but after being idle for a hour or so it seems to be at around 48-50 degrees on the cooler.

However, I have decided that its not due to the heat that the comp randomly turns off. Why? It turned off in the middle of my sister chatting on MSN which I'm pretty sure isn't that high on CPU usage.

PSU Problems? Not likely as it'll run a game perfectly fine without any lag :)

Well that thought had crossed my mind as when it turns off the PSU is rather warm but I wasn't aware that they had that sort of function built in.

Any solutions?
