40th birthday

Mine this week as well. Told them not to bother, if I want something I'll buy it myself.
They'll probably ignore me and get a load of crap I don't want.
Don't mind little things of the children but not grown adults.

It isn’t for a few months but still :p

I have adhd and obsess about shiny stuff. In reality I know the answer should be either save or put towards family stuff, but I also have to acknowledge that I have a known issue hence spending a stupid amount of time obssessing about stuff…anyway :p

A city break, mini holiday etc? Even if you have to put to and organise it as a family at least if it's in the name of your 40th you can enjoy it as such. We just did a trip to London. Our kids are 6 & 3 and never been so it was nice to show them the chaos vs the countryside they're used to.

Mines in 18 days. I'm being reminded daily since my birthday was 40 days out with a small gift such as a bottle of nice booze, item of clothing, keyring, Toblerone etc (always a winner). They can't afford the things I'd ask for, and everything else I already have, so it's a nice daily token that makes me feel loved.

Presents? i had some money and a voucher

I put the money towards a new laptop i was looking at Dell latitude 5530 - i5 12th Gen laptop

I also had a meal

In that case, a prescription and a meditation retreat should help.

Nothing changes if nothing changes my G. You're 40, you don't need people buying you the next shiny thing that you'll have forgotten about within a few days.

I turned 40 in the midst of lockdown, so just had a slightly depressing dinner at home. Did go and have a belated celebration with mates at a festival once things opened up again.

Not as sad as my 30th birthday, which was a couple of weeks after I'd moved to Hong Kong and worked a 14 hour day then had a bibimbap and a beer at a local Korean place on my own then crashed out and slept. But memorable.

Not quite there yet myself but I'm firmly in "pls no more objects, consumables only" territory.

Although it's a nice problem to have, coming up with answers for "what can I get you for your birthday? Hmm no, something bigger/something different" is a task I really could do without.

What I want isn't forum friendly
Plenty of man on man action in the mod section :p

An evening with 2 women of the night....

But on genuinely not hit 40 yet so dont know what I'd even ask for.

Surely the true response is a 5090 though right?

Food mostly and also the usual crap with 40 printed on it.

I never understood presents like these

OK maybe a glass, but id never use it

I think the oddest present i had was a cusion with 40 written over it, good sentiment but not something id have sat on the sofa
