I need to try and find a 4-6" 44 Pin IDE Cable to connect a 2.5" Laptop drive to an HP T5700 Thin Client.

I can find lots of 44 Pin to 40 Pin cables but non which are 44 to 44, if anyone can direct me to a supplier I would appreciate it.

Unfortunatley i would be more than happy to help, but as forum rules state we cannot direct or display 3rd parties on the forums, which is totaly fair tbh.
Id recomend phoning ocuk and speak to them you never know they may have something or be able to order it for you

why does it need to be 44 to 44
wont 44-40 work?
surely the 2.5in hdd and the HP T5700 Thin Client use standard connectors
like a IDE to 2.5 Laptop IDE Cable

Well the 2.5" drive uses a 44 pin standard laptop ID connector and the T5700 uses a standard 44 pin standard IDE connector as well - so yes they are both using standard connections just not 40 pin 3.5" connectors.

well a ide to 2.5in will work as 4 of the pins on the 2.5in hdd arent used(there the 4 split off from the rest)
so the 2.5in hdd is 40pin same as the 3.5in just a smaller connector
you have got mixed up by counting the pins and thats why you havent been able to find a 44 to 44 pin cable

Nope I haven't got mixed up - the IDE slot on the motherboard is 44 pin not 40, it is a thin client and currently has a flash a card installed on the IDE with Windows XPe on it. The flash card is coming out and a laptop drive is going in instead.

As for the extra 4 pins being un-used - I don't think they are, if memory serves at least 2 of them are for power (laptop drives don't have a separate power socket and my PSU doesn't have a power connector for a hard drive). I didn't count the pins I read the specs.

Anyway I found some cables but unfortunately only 2.5" long so I have ordered one and hopefully it will be long enough.

I am turning a 40 quid thin client into a mythtv backend, just in case you were curious.

All 4 "extra" pins are power. Same as a molex connector 12v, 5v, 0v, 0v.

I assume with it being a toaster, it doesn't have power cables leading here there and everywhere, so they used 44-pins to deliver power in the most space efficient way.

The question which arises is, surely the cable connecting the CF card will do the job?

the pic`s on my 2.5in hdd shows those extra 4 pins as the jumper select
which arent used when its in a laptop(its powered though some of the other pins in the connector)
thats why i thought he didnt need a 44 pin cable
also my 2.5in caddy doesnt use those extra 4 pins

The flash drive is plugged directly into the IDE slot, no cable.

This is where to get them. Very good fast service and they have lots of different lengths. Retro places often stock 44 pin cables :D
