45 nm cpu question

Intel 45nm Roadmap Revealed

Q9450 for me. Yum yum yum. :D

I wonder if there high FSB, 1333, compared to 1066 now, would have any
negative influence on overclock, in theori they should be better and break
the 4 ghz barier easy, but can we expect that in reality ? has there been
any tested samples sofar ?

We have CPUs with 1333MHz FSB now. Have a look around to see how people with E6750s or E6850s are doing.

Admitted, a few years since I put something together last time, back then
often going after a lower FSB to start with might make things work clocked,
if really not a problemnow then just good ;) and FSB-speed is welcome to :D

High FSB and low multipliers isn't particularly great for overclocking as you automatically start closer to the max FSB for your motherboard.

hmmm ,... ok ,.... but how the with Q9450 ? how high is that expected to overclock ?
and what would be the choices for ram ? (building a video-rig so every mhz counts)

If the new chips place the same FSB limitations on P35 motherboards as current quads then the most you can reasonably expect is about 3.8-3.9GHz if you're cooling is upto it.

ok, thanks for the answer, 200-300 mhz more, hmmm, not much,...
seems like it´s not complete madness just to bye a Q6600 today

Indeed.

The new gen Q9450 looks bloody good on paper though, perhaps you wouldn't really need to OC it...in fact I dare say you wont need to OC it at all going by the current software climate....

maybe I shouldnt be saying such things on an OC board, but you wouldnt buy a ferarri and then start tweaking its ECU, well unless you wanted the bragging rights of having one with 6 more horsepower than the standard item...

whoops, I miss-read that too!

even so, with the new chips money may be better spent on mobo/ram/GPU than the extra cooling required to get a huge cpu overclock?....

Actually its closer to 1.2Ghz overclock.

Yes, sure, I was just comparing with a Q6600 that I could have right now

perhaps you wouldn't really need to OC it

then you don´t know me :D:D:D I would be crazy NOT to, even stock-cooler
allows a decent clock with a good safe margin, and very easy as well, so it is
with the current Q6600, and so I guess it will be with the new ones also
