Gentlemen,

A lady friend of mine is looking to purchase a laptop. Being as her female brain is filled with butterflies, shoes and adorable puppy dogs I thought I'd do the responsible thing and seek informed knowledge.

I don't know a huge amount about laptops. It's always been my understanding that Dell are a safe bet in this department - but having never owned one I couldn't say for sure.

Recommendations?

i've just bought myself an acer aspire 1810tz, and i love it!

it's 11.6 inches, as light as a netbook, plays 1080p no problem, hd youtube is fine, editing stuff in lightroom2, cs3 is also easy.

i haven't tried out any video editing yet or games, but i'm really happy with it.

i brought it to work today, turned it on at 10am, still had around an hour left when i left at 6pm, it wasn't any heavy usage, but you can expect 4-5 hours heavy usage, 8-9 if you occasionally use it, i.e take a break every 10-15 min for 5 mins.

it comes with windows 7 home premium, 3gb ram, 200 gig hd, and it looks the biz too.

all for £449

i'd highly recommend it.

yeah it's a shame it doesn't have an ion, it would have been killer it did.
it's perfect if you're always on the go, and like i said, small editing like lightroom or cs3 is perfectly fine, tried some vegas last night, it woldn't play the preview but could encode, which defeats the point, need more time with it i suppose.

it wasn't having any games though, they failed to launch because of no directx, there goes my sf4 on the go dreams... but i knew it wasn't going to do it, i was just so impressed with it before, i thought it could do miracles :)
