£450 build

A friend wants a new PC, he’s not a gamer, mainly used for internet etc.

Any advice welcome

Very nice spec Jaffa - I would be tempted though to swap out the nVidia card for an X1950 Pro, they are around the same price but offer much better performance. Perhaps if he wanted to keep within budget he could purchase a 460W-500W PSU from Akasa or Zalman.

I considered the X1950 but they are £17 more expensive.

If you want to chop a few more squids off that price then Antec TruePower Trio 550W PSU is also a good PSU, or maybe even the 430.

Thinking about it now your probobly best off getting a 8600GT

A 7600GT and 520W for internet use?... common guys, that's just overkill. The OP even said he doesnt game.

I'd stick one of these in for the GPU if he definately isn't going to game - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-093-AS and then as suggest an Akasa 460W PSU - you may well be able to get away with a 400W though but I'm not certain. With that combination of CPU, RAM and motherboard you would be a fool not to overclock.

EDIT: Will's spec seems to be the win!

Or........ since its internet use and i can't see overclocking being a required feature.....

The custom cooler and AS5 will mean better temps and less noise... PSU and Case i choose with cost £5 then the one that includes PSU but will be modular and offer plenty of power...
