If someone is getting 450 kbs using a Nokia N95 as a modem (connected via USB) with O2 mobile broadband, is that a good speed? If not, what are the likely causes of slowdown; hardware or mobile broadband signal?

Thanks

Sorry, where you say 450kbs do you mean 450kbps, or 450KB/s

Will make a huge difference as to wether or not its any good.

I've had a connection speed of 4500kbps on my phone (and phone being used as a bluetooth modem with my laptop). Thats an HSDPA link through an HTC TyTN, on vodafone. It translates to around 540KB/s download rates.

I'm almost certain he meant kbit rather than kbytes. N95 is capable of more (Full HSDPA compliant iirc) but o2 connections are rather limited.

Both the n95 and 6120 Classic (which I'm currently using) support upto 3.6mbps. Right now I have about half signal strength and I'm connected at 450kbps on Three. The most i've ever seen is 1.8mbps and that was with nearly full signal.

If you plan to have a lot of data usage, I advise getting a USB dongle on Voda or Three. They both have excellent deals on at the moment, better networks, and you will get better speeds. Tip: three does not currently distinguish between 'mobile internet' and data usage so you can get a PAYG sim and put it in your modem and buy the 2gb internet addon for £5/month.
