45nm Q6600

The actual new 45nm Quad is a Q8200 not just a revised Q6600. I'd expect it to be 4MB shared, though not 100% sure.

I'd like to know how one performs. Was considering a Q9300.

I've just got hold of an Asus P5Q Deluxe second had, so I'm on the lookout for a CPU. I'd looked at the E8400 and the Q6600 and decided on the quad, but now the Q8200 throws a spanner in my works...

they might justify that price difference from the Q6600 with the shrink though to 45nm

Hmm lower spec some one say?
I guess it depends what your using it for, if your doing a lot of encoding the SSE4 should make it a fair whack quicker than the Q6600.

Horses for courses chaps!

for 150 quid you can pick up a used Q9450 which will be slightly easier to clock and has 3 times the cache!

only worth it if its 20% cheaper than a Q6600

considering a Q6600 is faster clock for clock due to only 4MB vs 8MB

theres a good range of products but the pricing on them is FUBAR.

tell intel i will giv em 55 pounds

Actually performance is very similar at stock with Q6600 winning some benchmarks and Q8200 winning others (by a small margin either way) at the same time using 10-15W less power.

I see your piont the pricing doesnt make much sence at the moment, I guess the Q8200 is a little high and the Q6600 is artificially low due to grey stock etc.

Intel will probably keep the Q660 for another quater then kill it and drop the Q8200 down to replace it when they are happy.

On OcUK 99% of the users are not system builders but are overclockers. My comment is entirely relevant.

Sure piont taken, I just like to broaden things out a little.

I think atm the q6600 is the best value for money, and thats why its still around when the q9450 has been dropped - its a huge seller. But if you want some newer tech with lower energy usage and runs cooler atm you are going to have to pay a bit more for it. Once the q6600 exits the market and 45nm is adopted across the board the q8200 should fall into a more reasonable price bracket.
