8800gts 640mb went boom last night, few years old so lasted well.

Don't want to spend £50 on a replacement, rather go for an upgrade.
looking to spend £150-200 so kind of tinkering on

However the 470 is £30 extra but I'm not so sure if it is worth it for me.

I game at 1680*1050.
PSU is antec 750.
Games mostly bc2 and wow.

Cooling is not an issue and I have an SLI board, Is the 470 that much more noisy than a 460, I think power wise what I use it for either would suffice?

Maybe a 460 SLI in the future but I said the same when I got 8800gts That I would SLI that when I needed it, That need never arose though.

So money aside is the extra noise/heat worth it?

Defiantly get a quad if BC2 is your main game. I have a phenom 2 which can unlock to a quad. As a dual core the 5850 is used around 30-40%, and the game is choppy. As a quad the GPU is 80-100% usage and smooth as butter.

was thinking 2nd hand quad but i played bc2 on high on the old graphics and it seemed fine.

I read on another post though that quads don't o/c well on 680i board so might struggle to get any advantage.

Quad on a 680i is gonna be fun and games - pretty much = Q6600 as 45nm CPUs especially quads don't really work with the 680.

yeah not tried it but that seems to be the general trend from what I read.

I figured an o/c e6600 more or less equals a stock q6600 for most things.
I would probably be better off buying some 2nd hand 800ddr2 and pushing the cpu further.

But the ssd and graphics card will go into the new cpu/mb/ram next year on the new sockets, thats the plan at the moment.
