hi guys put this chip in yesterday didnt use (artic silver ) i just used what came on cooler now temps idle around 41-43 then if i open web page or any thing they shoot up to about 53+ ,now if i leave the computer alone the temps dont come back down ?
mb is a asus av8 deluxe with lastest bios, any stressing of the cpu goes above 60 quite quickly :( everything seems ok as in cooler tight on cpu ,im guessing your going to say take it of and use some AS on it,or is this just not up to the job of cooling this chip ,thanks for any advice .

  • Do you have an intake & outtake/exhaust fan?
  • 100% sure the HSF is seating properly*?
*If you've fiddled/removed/etc the HSF, then you have to reapply some thermal compound!

Pick up the excellent AS5 & follow this instructions :)

well have reseated it and idle is 40 and load is about 55 ,this is with AS as the compund, one other thing is speed fan is showing cpu 0 40 cpu1 29 seems a big difference between the two cores !not sure what the scary high temps are :D
take a look here !and yes i have intake and outake fans and side fan

hmmm not changed anything so yea i guess ,what do u think it should be then ? temps getting beter idle at 35 playing cs just now went up to 44 so much better than befor, AS seems to have sorted it out .

Ignore speedfan, trust Coretemp. Is your vcore seriously that low?
Vcore infact is high, 1.49V according to Speedfan in that screenshot. Should be 1.30V~1.35V for that chip (check here). If low, e.g. 1.088V, then that's because Cool 'n' Quite is on, which its not, right?

Speedfan's is ok/best. Just ignore some of the 'weird' temp readings (see even here: -48°C)

EDIT: Have you overclocked it by-any-chance, manually or automatically (BIOS does it)? Because FSB is 208.04MHz instead of 200MHz & that might explain why Vcore is high.

no cool & quiet is off,and yes FSB has been increased a little bit as you picked up on :D running at 2.5 manually from bios at moment, should i be lowering vcore a little then! thnxs for your help guys.although looking now vcore seems to have come down weird.see screen shot

Temps seem fine (if that's load), well below TCaseMax which is 61°C.

HT Link is high though. Ideally HyperTransport should be at 1000MHz. Reduce the multiplier to 4x (or 800MHz) making it 834MHz, i.e. 208.5MHz*4x, & should be nice & stable ;)

EDIT: If got a decent mobo & (important) good cooling, you should push that chip to at least 2.7GHz (click my sig to see)

If you watch the vcore on any program for a min or 2, you'll see that it jumps around between a few values. Also, if you're only have 2 sticks of RAM, you could change the command rate in the BIOS to '1T' to give you a bit of extra performance.
