my dads just bought the ASUS card, he's installed it after replacing an old X700pro from an existing machine as he wanted to play newer games etc, using his current monitor of 17".

he wants to play games on to his TV which is an old CRT 32" with S-video and scart options, how can he use the PC on this TV?

i wasnt able to tell him how to do the process but he has upgrading and built computers in the past.

as far as i can tell he installed the card, booted up in to windows, windows popped up "found new hardware" problem being was his mouse wasnt working so couldnt click anything, and windows has started to install the graphics card and he cant do anything, seems to of locked up but continues to install...

i told him to restart in to safe mode and try uninstall the previous drivers and then the card or PC started beebing constantly, very long loud single tone beeps.

any help, im not with the machine so i will have to phone him with any suggestions and get back with the results.

is there anything perhaps he should have done before inserting the new card, he's not build PC's since first P4's about 7-10 years ago.

Try reseating the graphics card if it's beeping. If you still have problems, try putting the x700 back in and see if that still works ok.

There may be a problem with the card on arrival but at least you were getting some kind of output from it..(when you booted up the first time could the mouse connector have been slightly loose?)

i think the x700 was on its way out tho, he mentioned that when turning it on yest with the x700 in, he got a white background with lots of multi coloured stripes, i have seen this before with my GF's old PC.

i dont know as i wasnt with the machine, i dont think he could move the mouse from the start up, but you could be right with DOA.

if he cant get it to work i will have to go over tomorrow and try it all myself and get some back up from this forum.

anyone got any ideas how to connect the card to my dads TV? the card descriton says TV out, but how to connect via scart or s-video?

:s so next.. whats your psu?

I take it you've tried moving the ram around etc. taking unnecessary powered items off for the time being

its a 350W generic PSU, manufacturs stock.

im not with the PC atm, but have told him to try moving sticks of RAM about, unplug 2nd HDD, unplug 2nd DVD drive etc.

Recently blew a motherboard by plugging my 4670 in, replacing a 2600XT, and cranking up crysis..didnt take the time to notice the 300W generic power supply  ;_; or at least i think that's what the cause was

anyway, hope you get back with good news on that :p

what happened during POST when ur Mobo blew? im unsure of the details i think it boots in to windows, just within a long loud single tone no matter which card is put in

hehe was more of an amusing, if slightly irrelevant story :D. That was just me being an idiot. power draw peaked in crysis and and the smile was wiped right off of my face XD

Worth trying a CMOS reset, as suggested above. Have you managed to look at the PC yourself yet?

not yet, dad went in to work urgently so was unable to drop it off.

should be tomorrow, a CMOS reset will be the first thing i do, put in the old card, see how that starts up, might be able to get in to windows and delete drivers and download driversweeper(?), reboot in to safe mode (F5?) run driversweeper(?) and see how that goes.

to be honest i aint got much info out of my dad so i dont know whether it boots in to windows with this beeping he's on about or not, will see...

IF i can boot in to windows with the new 4760, with the P4 3.2 and 1gb of ram, should there be any issues, how well should it handle games etc???

My current rig:
Pentium 4 (Prescott) 3.4GHz
2GB DDR2 RAM
ATi HD4670 1GB DDR2
Some ancient bundled motherboard

I'm stuck on my 3.4GHz Prescott..still, 2GB DDR2, HD4670 1GB, it's hanging in there

(...I just about max out crysis...I'm not telling you how many fps though :p)

But seriously, photoshop, supreme commander..can get rather painful at times..:(

It does run, although I need to keep it sounding like a jet engine just to keep it under 70C while at full load.. I have a feeling it's on its last legs however, already badly struggling with the latest games..:(

Quite amusing that my Windows Experience Index is stuck at 3.3 because of the CPU (I know it's not a highly respected measure) while the GPU is something like 5.9

Assuming you're sticking to Windows XP with that amount of RAM, I've found that I can get decent performance out of most games from a couple years back. I was quite happy to have maxed out FEAR 2, although I imagine that's not very impressive to many people here :D but it showed that it was still hanging in there, if by a thread.
I said above that it struggles with the latest. COD:WAW is where I really started to feel it. I daren't touch GTA IV or ARMA II :p.

well when FEAR came out, it could only just manage that, so for it to be able to play FEAR 2 would be awesome.

i wouldnt like to think what temps mine would get up to, i presume yours is a custom build? mine shop bought from Aldi (dont laugh, altho i do lol) if it can maybe manage COD4 or anything around that, that would be brilliant for him :D

i told my dad its not worth looking in to building any new PC, as for what he's after he'd be better of waiting till the new series of CPU's come around. He's got a laptop for everything else like internet browsing, he doesnt need it for work, just gaming, i know he could get an amazing C2Duo rig but i dont see the point myself.

It's actually a Compaq Presario which I got v cheap second hand, which was then ripped apart and rebuilt so many times I've lost count, hence the motherboard :D

Good luck tomor..today..

lol if i can get through to my dad to drop it off!

ill keep everyone posted, might be a mobo update issue, bios issue, card issue, psu issue...or all the above lol.
