I,m thinking of changing my trusty 4670 for a 5750. I cant afford much more than £100 for a video card and was wondering would i see much of a difference. My current setup comprises a Asus P5KPL motherboard, E5300 @ 2 x 3.0ghz, 4GB DDR 800 ram. My psu is a storm 500watt a cheap one but it has a Pci express power connector so should be up to the job. I have also considered a Q6600 as i have seen a few of these for reasonable prices 2nd hand. My monitor is 1680x1050 so not super high res.

Would the upgrade be worthwile or would i be better hanging on to what i have for know. I generally play a bit of everything i can currently run batman at 1680x1050 max settings.

id'e say its worth the upgrade. If its generally for gaming, you might be better off going for a second hand E8400 or something, rather than a Q6600.

That PSU should power a 5xxx card fine. They are very energy efficient cards.

Yeah, kinda could second on Q6600 switch nicer to get 45nm than the 65nm just for get some lighter voltages. However, Quad-cores are showing really good, atm, don't think Dual-cores are gonna be good any longer. I'd search some Q8200 or Q9400 or such to replace even while clocks maybe slower in future gaming they will be really good atm system development.

the dual cores should be perfectly fine for gaming for the next 2 years at least.

An E8200 can be had second hand for under £60 now, and with 6mb L2 cache, thats a steal for gaming!

Cool, graphics card is a deffinate. Just need to work out a cpu. My current cpu is running @ 2 x 3ghz and i,m sure it will go higher just unsure of how to do it. I have posted in the overclocking section for some help on how to do this. Would i see much difference from what cpu i have to something like an E8400. I was thinking if the Q6600 G0 stepping and running it around the 4 x 3.0ghz point.. ? I have seen thse going on the auction site for around £80..

Cheers

Yes, you should see a difference. I just sold my last computer to a friend, which had an E6300 and a 8800GTS 512mb. Im in the process of building myself a new system now, with an E8400 in it, and a 5770. The difference in performance at higher resolutions should be quite significant.

I would snap one of them up for that price.. Had a look but cheapest i can find is £70.. Under £60 would make my day...:D

Ok have decided to utilise the old credit card and go for a 5750 & a e8400 cpu..

Just building up the courage to click the buy button from this site.. Think i will have to sell my 360 to cover the costs... lol... Hopefully i will see a nice difference..

Ok in the end i went for a 5770 and an e8400. plumbed it all in switched on, and the computer turned straight back off. Seems my Psu was not up to the job it was only rated at 20amps on the single 12v line and its recomended 40 for this card.
So another 80 quid later i have installed a Be quite 650w quad rail Psu, and all is working great. So far i,m quite immpressed the card is a deffinate improvement over the 4670. Although i still get a little stutter on some games i can now run at max settings at 1680x1050..
