Right guys, going to go sli with a couple of 780's. What would be the variance between the two processors in games?

Given the £90 difference i'm wondering whether the cost is worth it. If we are talking 10 to 20 frames then yes, if less then perhaps not.

Will be gaming at 4k.

Thoughts?

For SLI'd 780s or 290s (and obviously any better) I would recommend getting the I7. The i5 may hold the 780s back in some situations, and hell if you're spending that much on 4k monitor and 780s, what's another £90 for the i7!

As a side not concerning 4k; I personally would wait considering your primary focus is gaming, I just don't think 4k is quite there yet imo.

Thanks for the reply. I have the AOC 4k Monitor already, no issues with it (more luck than anything I believe).

I would mention that I would playing a mixture of games really from wow to wildstar to FPS etc.

im trying to decide between the two aswell :)
i think i will end up going with the one i can clock the highest

but i will most likely be upgrading not far away

i think there's only a couple games out right now that claim to be better with hyperthreading? and i dont like either of them

The i7 performance increase is negligible. However I always think this. The cpu is most likely the last part you upgrade and thats why I always buy the most powerful consumer cpu for my builds. Does that £70 extra change things much when you've already spent over £800 on graphics cards?

People with the 2600k are still going strong, and if they do upgrade it's because they're bored not because it's slacking in games.

Seems that a lot of people are pondering whether to get the 4690k or the 4790k... I still haven't decided between the two myself. Even though I'll most likely be sticking to 1080p and a single card setup, I'm still tempted to grab the 4790k for the base/turbo clock alone. Looks like you're aiming for a pretty high-end rig so you might as well get the newest i7 while you're at it. The extra grunt might come in handy somewhere down the road, especially witha a dual GPU setup.
