Totally new build, is it worth spending the few extra pounds on Skylake over the 4690k or should I be just saving some extra pennies and go with the 4690k?

It was about £100 in it between Skylake and an I5 4690K build, was just curious to ask as all I have seen is lolLake/FailLake/****eLake etc etc.

~£40 difference if you look at the bundles. Skylake didn't live up to expectations and isn't a huge improvement over Devils Canyon but for £40 you'd get a chipset with a bit more life in it and DDR4

Excellent, thanks for the advice.

This is the planned build FWIW:

Intel Core i5-6600K
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Asus Z170 PRO GAMING
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Quad Channel Kit
MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming Edition
Crucial BX100 250GB SSD
EVGA SuperNova G1 650W '80 Plus Gold'
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB
AOC G2460FQ 24" Widescreen 144Hz 1ms Gaming LED Monitor
NZXT H440 Midi-Tower - Black / Blue

Looks like a reasonable build; I might be tempted to go with a different brand of monitor, only because I haven't had great experiences with AOC monitors.

I've just come from a 4690k to a 6600k.
The difference small and the motherboards do cost more but you'll be ready for the next wave of intel cpu's as 1150 is dead now.
Plus ddr4 is coming down in price. I have no regrets.

Depends how much cheaper the 4690k setup is saving over the 6600k.
Only worth it if it's £100 cheaper area.

It's weird they should be dropping the 4690k price to £150 or less yet it remains not far off the 6600k.
Their loss intel will never learn I don't get it they'd rather destroy haswells than lower price ?

yeah 5820k obviously. Far superior cpu!

I'm planning to get this sometime between now and next summer depending how much the price drops or if craplake release a better alternative
