4690K or alternatives? Or, abandon 1150?

OK I guess this is a question of 2 halves. Looking to upgrade a disappointing G3258 which runs cool but won't clock over 4.0. It was bought as a stopgap costcutter so I'm OK with that really...

So, upgrading. Looking to spend under £200, and the 4690K seems to tick all the boxes. But is there anything else I should consider, some older forgotten chip that's become a mad bargain or something that'll reliably overclock way past its stats? Or something definitely worth pushing the budget a little? I'll be keeping this processor for a good long time (until last year, I was using a Q6600!) so I'm not looking to scrimp exactly but, still looking for a value balance

And the other question is, should i already be considering ditching 1150 entirely? Don't really want to tbh but if things have moved on already I suppose it might make sense to replace the whole lot...

Yeah, I can't find a 4690k or i7 for those prices or it'd be pretty tempting. Used would be fine but there doesn't seem to be any around

I think I saw your post actually! It's always possible someone else'll get better results in a different setup I suppose. But it's good to know, tbh it's done a good job and spread the cost of the build (or rather, let me spend more on the grapgics card) so I don't mind the loss anyway. But still, I'm scottish and there's a stereotype to reinforce here...
