Hi
So I've got a 4690k on gigabyte z97x gaming 5 motherboard.
I want to overclock it, now the last cpu I overclocked was the good old q6600 many years ago and I haven't done it since.
Full specs are:

I5 4690k @ stock with Prolimatech 81 cooler that I added 2 Noctua NF-F12 fans
16GB Ram @ 2133mhz
KFA2 GTX 970
Gigabyte z97x-Gaming 5 motherboard
650w EVGA gold PSU
Corsair 450d case

I'm going to say I'm new even though I did overclock my old system.

Simplest way.

Set vcore to 1.25v
Then raise multiplier until it become unstable, start at x 40 ( 4Ghz ) and keep going.
Check temps and run a few stability tests e.g RealBench

That will give you a comfortable overclock, and you'll start to see what your chip is capable of.

DISCLAIMER - I am not 8 Pack :D

:) Thanks for the advice, should I be turning anything off in bios?

Right I've only changed vclre to 1.250v and muliplier to 40. Running real bench now and it's sitting happy at around max temp of 59c
