4690k temps

When I installed my Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler I think I used the thermal paste that came with it (I thought I used some MX-2). I noticed when I ran a Prime95 torture test my temps were getting a little high for my liking, around 75c after about 5mins. I used the pea method when applying the paste I think.

I have cleaned all that off and have now reapplied with the MX-2 that I have (its quite old, around 7 years). This time I have used the method that I have always used (30+ or more times) which is spread a small amount over the top of the CPU.

Any way, I still think my temps are high, they are slightly less, about 1-2c less. Is this ok for my cooler? I ran the test for just over 10 mins. The 4690k is boosting to 3.9GHz on all cores.

P.S I have a Antec P182 case with 2x 120mm exhausts and 2x 120mm intakes (one is in the lower, isolated section with the PSU and 4x HDDs).

*edit* I should have said, my idle temps are 28c.

I have been running the 15min stress test in realbench and so far the max cpu temp across all four cores is 60c. A lot less than Prime ;/

im getting a max of 61c running realbench with an overclock of 4.4Ghz but im using the Phanteks ph tc14pe cooler which has dual fans and is a bit bigger than yours.

to be honest at the price of it Im fairly impressed with his overclock temps.

Ill be looking for a cheap cooler for my sons 8350 and after seeing this I might consider it.

See if you can get the wraith cooler, if not then the coolermaster 212 is brilliant as a budget Frieza for your cpu

its not overclocked :p

ahh good point I wasn't taking the turbo into consideration when I was looking at the screen shot

yea I had been looking at the 212 but havent looked at the wraith. Ill be needing 2 as my mate wants me to fit a cooler to his 1090t as well

fobose
I wonder if your case is flowing enough cool air to CPU cooler. Your idle temps look fine, but load temps seem high. If you could monitor and report back what the cooler intake air temp is at idle, a minute into stress test, 3 minutes in, 5 minutes in and 10 minutes. If the air going to cooler is getting progressively warmer, we know the problem. ;) Here's a guide to what I use to monitor temps and how to optimize case airflow and cooling

Wraith is not as good as 212, and 212 is not as good as Themis. Yeah, there was a time when 212 was an okay cooler at a low price, but those days are long gone. There are many better coolers at lower prices now. Themis is one.
