hi,i have 2 gtx470's in sli.even with custom water they get toasty.they play bc2 maxed out ok but they keep crashing in shogun 2 on max settings.what single gpu would give me the same performance?

There isn't a single GPU even close yet. An OC'ed 470 can get close to a 580.
But custom water on 470's should be fine, I'd look for a problem with the cards if it's crashing, or drivers.

Whats your set up, and what order do you have them in and your temps. My single 470 OC'c 850:1700:2000 1.025mv never went over 52'c, custom loop, cpu 920-4.2GHz.

Try each GPU card by itself to see if the problem lies there, keep the same settings.

well i suppose they are not toasty, but after gaming the heat out the top of the case feels a lot warmer than normal running.as for oc'ing them,i can't get them both stable above 800/1600/1680 and thats with voltage at 1087.my temps are fine for the cpu and gpu but since i put another in sli my pc just seems unstable at times.i've tried overclocking them using afterburner but in games they crash

They need more voltage overclocked in sli to be stable I found flash them with 480 bios also drop the clock on your i7 to 4.2 might help

Running two here in sli, the stock fan setting is absolutely rubbish, i use a custom fan profile in msi afterburner, keeps them at 70c max in game, run them at stock theese days as nothing really stresses them.

There are guides on extreme forums to flash the cards

Basically flashing to the 480 bios allows usage of higher voltages

Also changes the stock core clock to a 480

It allowed me to clock my cards to 850 and 2200 mem before that I could only get 800 and 1900 mem

As to the temps bigger rad or add another to existing loop if your case will fit it

ok,i've dropped them back to standard clocks and all seems ok.now the question is are 2 in sli on standard clocks faster than 1 overclocked 470?
