Hi 8 Pack or anyone else for that matter can help,
Recently got a new system (see sig) and i love it:D it's my first intel system after using AMD for a long time and the performance difference coming from my fx4100 system is insane.
The issue i have is that i've never overclocked an Intel rig before..
After having a look in the bios there's plenty that i recognise but i guess i'm a little scared on where to start.
Can you help me with establishing a base to start for please?
Current cooling is an arctic freezer 13 but i do plan on getting a water loop setup after upgrading my Gpu when the new AMD cards hit.
I'm not after crazy speeds but 4.4 would be great until i sort better cooling;)

Thanks
David

Well i tried a fair bit of gaming, everything went well tbh, tried arma 3 but even with a full server and the view distance up full, i found that it hardly uses this 4770k.
So switched to BF3 and a full server, played a couple of games and again went well.
My only concern is temps, max temp was 77c? whats the max safe temps of these cpus?
Thanks again 8 pack.
Oh one last thing, was that a "no" to dropping the vcore or leaving the ram @1866?

Edit-Does this score and associated pics look correct?

Well after a long session gaming today i'm happy to report that i've had zero crashes thus far:D
stable at 4.5, my cache ratios are (min 39) (max 43) vcore @1.232.
that ok 8 pack?
There's so much more settings in the bios that i don't have a clue about like extreme tweak etc anything else i can change for more performance?
Tbh i've not really noticed much gains in gaming, but i guess my gpu is the bottleneck now as it's constantly maxed at 99% usage.
Edit- things like speedstep, all powersaving settings etc are enable, should i disable these?
And is it better to use adaptive voltage rather fixed?

Me again,
After watching a few Asus north america vids he recommend running the cache frequencies in sync if possible with the core for max performance?
Well i have not sync'd the core and caches to 4.5 and everything seems fine.
can you confirm this 8 pack?
Thanks
david

I'm jealous of these results, I need 1.31v just for 4.4GHz (though I can run 4.3GHz at 1.2!). I've found for me that higher cache speeds definitely cause problems, even with the voltage raised, e.g. cache at 4.2GHz is 100% stable, at 4.3GHz I get crashes under high load.

I'm guessing i've just got lucky tbh, although i've not tested on anything like prime95 etc.
All my games run great without crashes so fingers crossed, temps have altered too where i think the AS 5 needs time to cure so chuffed to bits really.
I did try changing the Dram command rate to 1t instead of 2t and got a crash on arma 3 mind so that's gone back to 2t.
I don't know how different are boards are, maybe that's it? i don't know.

Just a quick update,
After fitting my H100 and my temps getting much better, i've dabbled a little more on the overclocking front.
Tried both 4.6 and 4.7, managed to get both stable pretty quickly in all my games, here's my results:

4.5
45x multi
45x Unicore
vcore @1.232
Cache @1,240

4.6
46x multi
44x Unicore
vcore @1.250
Cache @1,240

4.7
47x multi
45x Unicore
vcore @1.300
Cache @1,250

For now i've got it at 4.6 as tbh, i've not noticed any real increase in performance other than benchmarking, probably down to being GPU Limited.

My first 4770K could only get to 3.9GHz on 1.3v :)

My 4670K is better - it's stable on 4.4GHz at 1.21v, but I can't go any higher because I'm on a low profile cooler on a mini-itx board and it reaches 90C in stress tests.
 I did get lucky!
Like i've mentioned, tbh, it's doesn't even need to be overclocked, the performance @ turbo speed is brilliant.
Glad you've had more luck with the 4670K teppic;)
