Hi all, Was going to pull the trigger on a 4770k, mb and memory…… but now I’m looking at 2011 socket, which I prefer the look off, 3820 and memory… it will only be used for games, do like to overclock…. I don’t know what to do..

4770K setup will be better for gaming, use less power as well. With X79 you gain quad channel memory and full PCIE x16 bandwidth for GPU's, which could be useful if you plan on more than 2 GPU's. Either setup is decent, with the cheaper Haswell mobo's and better gaming performance I would lean towards that setup if I was mainly gaming..

As mentioned, with this close to 4820 release you should wait till then and then see what prices and overclocking performance is. I'd be inclined to go X79 but wait before you decide.

Drangueos what do you feel you are missing out on against the 8320K?

For quad core gaming I very much doubt you will see any advantage in the more expensive 2011 setup.

more pci-e lanes, quad channel memory...

If I had a 3820, I would be running 3x7950 instead of 2, that I am running now.

Plus x79 isn't mainstream...who wants to be the average joe?!?

Tempted for a 6 core ivy e. the 3820s sell on the market for not a lot less than retail. Mine is a good clocker too if you dare the volts to be 1.45. Can hit 5ghz np.

Ah so mutli gpu still not certain about real world advantage when sticking with a quad core cpu.

If I was thinking of running 3 7950's it would be with nothing less than a 3930/4930K. 6 cores goodness and multi gpu's. IF I had the money I would love that setup.
