4770k Upgrade Options?

I have a 4770k, and will upgrade this month. It is a tax write off, so would make sense to buy this system and then sell parts on ebay from last build. Can anyone recommend me a good CPU to upgrade from? I can always buy a new 4770k, if its worth sticking with

I mainly game at 3440x1400 with ultra settings etc and some web browsing

I don't overclock ( I know it's a sin ) but willing to try it :)

The only upgrade you could get would be going x99 but it ain't cheap, if you are sticking with Haswell, there is no point in changing your chip.

Definitely try overclocking first :)

Overclock the cpu before you upgrade :)

4770k vs 4790k=no real difference

X99 is a decent upgrade but depends on what you are doing and if you really are making use out of those extra 2 cores one way to put it is no current games use more then 4 cores course that could all change at any moment.

I would put that money towards the next upgrade or an SSD/GPU if you really have an itch ;)

This upgrade is a tax write off, so it either goes on upgrade or to goverment, budget could be £2000. I'm debating whether to do GTX 980 in 2 way SLI, as I still have tons of games to play. Watch dogs, hitman, tomb raider etc all the biggies

I'd go 970SLI, little cheaper and hardly much slower... stick with haswell... X99 is too much money and no point upgrading to a brand new build because Z97 is still the best gaming platform going.

X99 is mainly for 4K gaming and workstation software

if you have 2k to write off, why not just go to x99 and 970/980 sli?
Or upgrade your current with high end GPU's/more ram, bigger SSD whatever, and build a server, for, stuff...whatever you can think to use it for, or an htpc.

Or, if you dont already have one, get a nice gaming laptop?

with your current use, I dont see any CPU upgrade worth buying really. I would suggest go for 2x GTX 970 SLI and invest some money on SSD or new monitor with Gsync or 144Hz. Or, you can build a custom watercooling just for the sack of spending money.

Agree with above 2 post, 970sli + SSD or new monitor sound better upgrade options.

144Hz / GSYNC is probably the best upgrade you can do along with supporting GPUs. It's like the difference between a platter based HDD and an SSD.

Its really that much better? Please say its not that drastic a difference, I dont want to have to afford to replace a 30" and 2x 27" IPS monitors lol

It depends on the games you play, but for anything fast paced like FPS games, yes, it's that much better. I bought a 27" 144hz screen to go with my 27" IPS and now my IPS screen just sits there as a secondary monitor running teamspeak and maybe chrome, I hardly even look at it tbh.
