Hey,

I've pretty much settled on the parts below to upgrade my 4770K setup. I already have the following items:

  • Corsair 850w PSU
  • Noctua NH-D15S heatsink+fan
  • RX 5700XT

The bits I'm battling with are the RAM and M.2 drive. I keep reading good things about the Patriot Viper Steel series, but is there a better value for money option? 16GB would be enough.

Is the Sabrent Rocket the default no-brainer choice for a 1TB M.2 drive?

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £412.27 (includes shipping: £12.30)

I'm in mostly the same boat as you (older GPU but that's next years problem), is that motherboard the best option for the price?

You should probably start your own thread, but that motherboard is the only B450 board anyone should consider these days. It has great VRMs so a more powerful 12 or 16 core chip could go into it. But there's two versions, you want the MAX version.

I think you're good on all fronts there aside from the SSD, I'd take EsaT's advice on that.

TeamGroup is cheaper high TBW Phison E12 drive than Corsair for only £10 more than WD SN550:

Thanks! I've been out of the game for a long, long time so this is the first time I'd even heard of Phison E12.

It looks like the Sabrent Rocket uses the (SB-ROCKET-1TB) uses the same controller and is currently £130. Would that be a good alternative to the TeamGroup one?

With regards to memory, I'm thinking about picking up the Crucial 2x8GB 3600 CL16 set with SKU BL2K8G36C16U4B for £90 unless someone knows of a similar performing set for less.

Ads don't usually mention components, but Phison E12 is likely the most common controller used likely by something like dozen to 20 brands.
So it's extremely tried tech.

Sabrent Rocket is good for price.
Though Q uses QLC Flash and should be clearly cheaper than TLC drives.
For gaming PC WD Blue SN550 would be another bang per buck choise.

Cooler needs AM4 mounting kit which you can get free from Noctua.

Kit is also sold as separate accessory, but is out of stock in OcUK and availability time would be likely same as from Noctua.
Actually if Noctua has kit in stock it might get to you in like half week.

Thanks :) I just read on Anandtech that TeamGroup are one of the very few manufacturers using updated firmware from Phison so I'm sold on it, and the price is pretty good.

Thanks for the heads up about the AM4 mounting kit. I found out about it last night, but I can only order one when I have an invoice for the CPU or motherboard. Hopefully the delay isn't too long. but I'm sure that the Ryzen stock HSF will do the job in the meantime.
