4770K/Z87 - Gaming PC: Late and Wait?

I have been debating a new pc for a few weeks now and I think I've decided on spec which I was going to just ask advice about but now I believe z97 will be next month so have I missed the boat now and may as we'll wait? Z97 alone isn't enough for me and it would be a 4790K but they're June I believe and can't wait that long.

Needs are; Gaming, Development and Dual boot.

4770K
350D
H100i with SP120
Asus Maximus Gene
8/16GB 2133/2400 Vengeance Pro Red
AX760/860
Asus DCUII 780 (Maybe Ti)
Neutron GTX 240GB
Samsung EVO 250GB
1/2TB HDD

Monitor I'm going 1080p again, love the Asus 1440P but I wamt the refresh rate so it's either the Asus 24 144hz or the BenQ XL2420T

Extras
K70 & M65 (Black)
Corsair Extended Surface
Vengeance 2100
Red Cables
AF120 LED
2 X AF120/140
Magic Mouse
Apple Keyboard
SP2500 Speakers

The extras won't happen right away because of budget. Just want to get up an running 1st. I have owned the XL2420T previously and it was a really good monitor with the 4:3 scaling for CS but I believe the Asus is capable of a GSYNC mod and performs better but either I would be happy with.

Anyone got any input or suggestions on my build and if I should just wait a few weeks or not? The GPU is no rush. I will be working on this pc a lot before I play.

Any help would be great

I think I have OCD about this build :-/

I could save money if I didn't want matching manufacturers.

The EVGA PSU even comes with black/red cables so would match the theme but I seem to want the AX860 and pay extra for cables. Same with the GPU and SSD because I could get the MSI gaming cards which can cost less and match the theme so i definitely have a problem

Hi,

That looks well thought out indeed, very nice.

What is your overall budget? For the rig, no extras?

You'll have to remove that "-ingtosh" word, as we can't talk about that kind of activity (against the rules) ..

Just wondering, why 2 SSD's of different brands?

I've been debating it a while and when I finally was happy with my choices all these new things are appearing like the new Intel SSD and Asus have a 1440p 144hz monitor too which would be best of both for me.

One SSD for windows and the other for booting another OS.

Don't really have a budge, would like it as cheap as possible but not compromising on looks or performance. I would guess a decent Z87 system would be £1K approx then around £500 for the extras and tarting it up

If anyone owns the Asus 144hz what do they think? Does it have any features like the BenQ does, my old 1 of them that was only 120hz had a feature that improved darkness in games and also you could scale it like a 21" 4:3 monitor which I loved

Really can't decide if I should wait or not now!! Will it be June onwards before I can get my hands on an unlocked i7 and ROG z96 board?

hard to say the exact release dates but keep an eye out on this thread here:

As the main post suggested mid 2014 which would put it around June perhaps July time-frame for the refresh haswell and new z97 boards. One can assume Z97 boards will be releasing around same time if not a little bit before otherwise why release a product which can't be used :)

If your ok to wait just over 2-3 months more and have a good system already it doable.

Or just like the rest of overclockers do buy your kit and get bored of it weeks/months later and sell it off too buy new toys with, they call it the members market.

Your damed if you do and damed if you don't, come summer time you will tell yourself should have waited and man that new stuff looks good and I vant, not want but vant.

Truth of the matter is even if you do wait a few months afterwards DDR4 motherboards and X99 motherboards with better haswell cpus will come out this fall, this is why Overclockers has members market and why flebay exist!

Thanks for your input, i chickened out and didn't get a z87 system today. Problem is I have no pc at the moment and if it's June/July I won't bother waiting for 15% gains.

I sold my x79 system last year and lost a fortune so I will be staying well away from x99 if I can and want to build something for once and keep it so if I get a 4770K MaTX build I want to keep it for at least 2 years
