Hi,
Not up on Penitum M 478. Seen a few 478 1.6 1MB Pentium M's going on the bay for £20. Can these be used in a standard 478 Mobo? I have P4C800E but havn't bought the CT479 adapter yet. Could I drop the 478 Pentium M in this board?

I didn't think there were any 478 Pentium M's but I know there are 478 P4M's because I'm using one of those in my download box. I thought I would ask but it would have been nice if they did do a 478 variant.

You have a good Mobo there for a CT-479 / Pentium-M System, I would go for it. Try and go for a Sonama Core Dothan (533FSB), 730, 740, 750 etc as these clock higher than the 400FSB variety.
Should have no problem getting one upto at least 2.5GHz on the stock cooler that is supplied with the CT-479.
At this speed they are great performers in games.

Hi m8,
I'm trying to get a low power but fast system to use in my MCEBox. Its currently using a 2.4HT passive but still kicks out too much heat and is not very responsive with MCE 2005. I feel guilty using my main beast, its not exactly enviromentally friendly so if I can have a really enviromentally MCE box thats running 24/7 then it will at least make me feel I'm doing my bit for the planet.

judge c what does your rig get in 3dmark 05 bty as i ahave a dothan with with a x800xtpe and was thinging of changing it to pci-e i get 7k bty

and my p4 chip feels faster in Mce due to it being better at multi tasking the dothan is faster but start running loads of apps and it chugs

I had the same problem with a 3700SD, that chugged with MCE with plenty of things going on. In that respect the 2.4HT is smoother but still lacks the 3700 Kick. Perhaps the core duo is the way to go.
