Hello

i have a 4790k running 4.8ghz, 32gb ram and im looking to replace my r9 390 with something more powerful.

setups is basically 2 screens running 1080p and a rift

with my r9 390 i cant run any supersampling on the rift so thinking it might be time to get big

will the 4790k bottleneck a 1080ti?

Cheers

Nice to see how popular the 4790k actually is. Everyone seems to have 6700k onwards and I'm sat here rocking my 4790k at 4.6GHz! I had the same question as given the hugely underwhelming Vega launch, I might snap up a 1080ti and a 165Hz 1440p monitor...

Another 4790k and 1080ti owner here, I game at 1440p/60hz at the minute and GPU load rarely exceeds 50%, absolutely cracking combo. Going to go either UW or UHD when I'm back off holiday as it just isn't pushed at the minute.
Josh.

I'm a 4670K owner @ 4.4Ghz, currently gaming on a Rog Swift 34" ultrawide with a 1080. Even at my lower clockspeed, I've no concerns about bottlenecking and will probably go with a 1080ti shortly so I can use a higher level of supersampling on my Rift. Hard to believe my rig (excluding GPU) is 4 years old now and will probably get another year out of it!

Got a 4790K running at stock with a GTX 1080 until I sidegraded to the Vega 64 yesterday. Everything still runs great maxed out at 1440p 144hz. No reason to overclock this amazing CPU yet!

Awesome! What was the reason for the sidegrade out of interest? I was considering jumping to 1080 or Vega from 980ti, but it just doesn't seem worth it I guess... Hmm...

I have an Freesync monitor so I wanted to use that feature again. So put the 1080 in my 2nd gaming PC which I also upgraded to Ryzen 7 1700. My 4970K still keeps up it in gaming. I think the 4970K will be up there with the Q6600 in CPU history with longevity.

If I was upgrading from an 980ti, I would go straight to the 1080ti if you can afford it.

Yep, my thoughts exactly... I don't think I've had a single moment where I've felt bottlenecked.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. Think I'll put £100 away every month until Volta and see what it gets me!
