Ok I have just built
4790K
Asus Ranger z97
raijintek Ereboss Core cooler, refitted / re pasted 4 times :(

If I run a stress test it can hit 100c
Idle is roughly 28-32 (seems fine to me)

Intel XTU = 70c
Cinebench = 70c
Prime95 = 90+ :eek:
Intel Burn test = 100c

CPU-z core voltage can top out @ 1.2
Hardware monitor, Vcore max 1.24

What am i doing wrong  (Bios settings maybe)
I know these run a little hot but this is nutts

Those temps sound about normal tbh.

you probily wont see past 65c in general usage/gaming most likely

4790k's just run hot

As above, just don't run p95 or ibt, theese chips aren't designed to run theese programs. Try Asus real bench for a stability test if overclocking. Much more realistic load and temps.

Hi all, sorry could'nt reply last night, electric went off.

Asus real bench = 70+ much the same as intel & cinebench above

Sorry dont have AIDA right now.

Running stock, thats why i had asked to check volts,

I just did'nt expect it to run this hot, thats why i got the ereboss, I would hate to see anyone run this with the stock cooler

Stock cooler at stock running adobe media encoder gave me temps in the early nineties.

Intel is fine with these chips running hot it seems.

A big beefy dual tower alpenfohn k2 with dual 1900 rpm fans resulted in 94c at stock for me in p95.:D

For reference.
Corsair H105
i7 4790k at 4.5GHz (mobo overclocked default - so probably running more vcore then it needs)

Idle: 30-35'c. Max: 70'c and that's not even with full fan speed..

ok folks i'm a bit happier now.
Thanks for all the input and the youtube video.

in bios, found that the board sets boost to 4.4 on all 4 cores
Changed this to Per/by core, as thats what this chip is meant to run stock.
Hope this makes sence

Now looking at CPUz it shows all 4 cores running 4.2 (as it should at stock)
And my core volts are now 1.15 instead of 1.24,
(1.15 look ok for stock or could it be lowered ?)

can run prime or intel burn test,, or even both at same time, And temps peak in high 80s

This is very different from peaking 100c and throttling.

1.15v sounds ok for stock, but if you can go lower without blue screening then you might as well :)
