4790k cooler

Hi guys,

I am looking at replacing my i3 550 which I have had since may 2011.It has been overclocked from 3.2 to 4.2 since I first got it and has been very reliable.

All that time it has been cooled by a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 and now that I am looking at upgrading to a i7-4790k can anybody recommend me a cooler which is a similar size to this one so that it will fit my case please.

To begin with I will be running it at stock but in the future I would like to have a go at OC but I am not into benchmarks etc so will not go mad with the OC.

What case do you have?
I'm running a Thermalright True Spirit 140 Power, may be a fair bit larger than your Arctic though..
It keeps my 4790K cool and I can't hear the fan, but be wary of orientation depending on your motherboard it will block the first PCI-E slot (in my case this was my 16x slot so mounted horizontally instead)
Heatsink is tall but plenty of room in my Fractal R4

Can't see maximum height for CPU cooler on the specs, how far from the side of the case is your Arctic?

Most of the decent air coolers are quite tall and wide, unless you were considering an AIO, but then in the Lian-Li I'm not sure where you'd fit a rad..

New case too for your 4790K, mobo & cooler maybe, if budget allows?

Yes mate that is the case.

I have not considered an AIO,but if I do then I think I will have to invest in a new case.

I will look at some different cases and hopefully the budget will allow it !

Can you not just use what you have already? fittings are the same, just add new paste.

I did think about that,I take it at stock the cooler would be fine,but how far do you think I could OC it in the future ?
