As the title says, i'm looking for some suggestions as to what cooler to buy for an i7 4790k. I'd prefer suggestions to be air cooling instead of water cooling.
I'll be using the i7 for heavy gaming, streaming and a lot of 3D modelling/graphic design. I don't plan on overclocking the CPU straight away, but I would like a cooler that would allow me to overclock the CPU a decent amount if I decide to in the future.

I've been looking for a while now, I'd just like some further input to help me come to a decision.

Thanks

I think if I wasn't too concerned about budget and could have fitted one in my case I would have fancied a Noctua.

They seem really good, maybe have a look at them?

Noctua are good, but they are only on of many big fish in the pond. Others just as good and sometimes better are Cryorig, Thermalright, Phanteks be quiet!, Alpenfon /aka Deepcool, Raijintek, Scythe, etc.

We really need more info about what case, etc. you plan to use.

Sorry, but NH-D15 is not "the best." Cryorig R1 Ultimate is definitely just as good. Put same 1500rpm NF-A15 fans on several of the other top coolers and they become "the best." ;)

Reading reviews to see which is "the best" is a crap-shoot. I only know of two that monitor and use the only critical air temperature .. cooler intake air temp. All the rest use room ambient .. and they are not the same. Using room ambient means they are testing their systems with different coolers, not testing coolers in their system. To test the cooler they have to monitor the cooler intake air temp .. and it often changes by simply changing fan speeds .. and almost always changes when changing coolers. And every degree the cooler intake air changes is at least a degree the CPU temp changes as well.
