Currently I'm on a 8350, I was waiting for skylake to upgrade, but it's quite underwhemling.

So I was thinking of going with this instead

AS £360 is a cheaper upgrade as I don't need to add memory and can just reuse my genesis grey. With the x99 bundle currently available, 5820K setup would be anothe £110 and i7 skylake would be much the same, which is a bit of a stretch, but not impossible if really worth it.

I pretty much only game + stream to twitch.

I was hoping skylake would have made it easier, but with it's meh performance, it's a harder choice.

yep. 5820K is 290 on its own and you won't get X99 mobo for 100 on its own.

so good deal on combo.

212 prob would not cut it once you get into overlocking.

650W is fine provided it's at least bronze and something decent, so e.g. not low end cheapo Corsair CX.

Would it be mad to get this cpu and NOT overclock? I've never done it before. Would I still need a cooler? Or could I add one later if I decided to OC? What cooler would you recommend?

Sorry for all the questions!

You don't need a cooler if you don't overclock but they still run hot at stock/stock.

No you wouldn't be mad as they offer a substantial boost at stock over the non k but you'll be ble to do it when it takes your fancy...as long as you get a Z97 board.

you don't have to do it immediately, but it sure would be a wasted potential later on. There a re lot of good guides and it's nothing too complicated.

as for cooler it depends on budget, but e.g. Scythe Mugen Max for around 35-40 is a good choice for air cooler.

then there's closed loop liquid coolers, but they are pricier than air coolers. the benefit is somewhat lower temps, no RAM clearance issues and the PC generally looks a bit tidier.

Thanks. And for ram can you use 2x4 or does it have to be 4x4. Can I get 2x4 of DDR4 and add a further 2 later on?
