4790k upgrade advice

B660 will have the same upgrade path as z690 just the lack of k chip overclocking ghre2 the multiplier.

There is the middle ground like the 12600k with those 4 extras e cores and higher clock frequency which will does require mpre power, hence more cooling but nothing crazy. 12700k is a step above worth 2 extra p cores and potentially longevity .

Look more at your use.:D

12600k and b660 isn't bad option imo a bit like a Volkswagen Golf gti not to pretty but plenty under the hood :D:D

Well, I can use 12700's power with VSTs in my DAW, that's for sure:D

Good to know that B660 will be compatible with RL, I thought it'd be left out. Though I'd still go with 690 if getting a K chip.

Of course you're absolutely right, there is a good middle ground, what I meant is that once I get above the 12400f, which is the most reasonable choice, I just kinda feel like going all out for at least 12700 or k. Not that much difference between 12600k and 12700 in price, especially if I keep it for a few years, so I'd take those 2p cores gladly.

We'll see, there aren't any bad options here, just cheaper and more expensive. My platform is so old that the difference will be immense no matter what I pick but I don't want to regret anything.

I actually found a great deal today for a second-hand 12700k and MSI Z690 with proof of purchase and warranty, bought in February, but I'm hesitant since the price is just a bit too good:p

Pretty much settled on the mobo now. Assuming I go with the 12700k, I imagine my Freezer 34 Duo might have problems with cooling it?

I might go for light OC just for fun later on but for now I'm mainly interested in undervolting and shaving off some power consumption and temps while keeping the performance.
