Hi Guys,

I currently have a 4790k 4.4ghz and a 1080 ti.

Is it worth upgrade my cpu?

I only use my pc for gaming at 1440p and not sure if its worth the money to upgrade.

I upgraded from my 4790k and noticed no real difference, Ryzen feels a lot 'smoother' though is the only way I can describe the upgrade.

I would keep what you have.

Ain't worth. It better option to delid the 4790K, overclock it another 10% and wait for next round of CPUs

you would get a few FPS from the faster single core performance, and a few FPS from the faster DDR4.
But i would think the outlay would vastly out weigh the gains in performance.

4790k is still a very good CPU

Just delidded mine today temps are great ran some benchmarks hasn't went above 60 degrees two cores are down to 24 idol .
It's overclocked on one core to 5ghz others at 4.9 .
That's the old overclock might fool around in a couple of days once it's bedded in a little.

I game at 1440p changed from a 4770k that ran at 4.6. It was well worth it for me . Tw2 went from 50-60 ish fps to 80+. Bf1 on a 64 man map went from 70-89 to a minimum of 105 fps. I found it well worth changing to the 8770k
Am lucky as it runs at 5.2 as well.

The thermal paste in mine was hard as a rock came off in two chunks really cleanly.
I'm keeping mine for another year or two single core performance on this chip is still really competitive.

Perhaps delid and/or think about upgrading your cooling so you can get a decent overclock.
So you get a little more performance in the mean time till you decide what your gonna get in the future.

you must have upgraded or overclocked your GPU at the same time. BF1 uses 4 threads so the CPU upgrade wouldn't get you an extra 30FPS alone.
did you go from 8gb ddr3 to 16gb ddr4?

Strange , i must have a special version of BF1 as on mine it happily uses 8 threads, in fact i think it uses all 16 but i may be wrong

I have had the titan pascal since release oc'd to 2000/2500 on both cpus. had 16 gb of ddr3 at 2400. The ddr4 I have is oc'd to 3200. I am now runing the nvm in the asus hero x slot so that might make a diffrence I guess as before on the 4770k it was in pci expansion slot.

Perfect, lots of good advice and think i'll just hold off and wait till something better comes along. Will see about pushing the clock a bit higher but just happy its still a good chip!!

I went from a 4790k to a ryzen 1600x just to try the dark side and it was a new build in a htpc (still have the 4790k)

No i would stick with it maybe bump up the clock speed. Thr ryzen tears it apart in video editing but has more cores but in games its 6 of one half a dozen of the other. Some games get a few more frames some dont

Ofc its time for upgrade. I bought it for 259 3 years ago and sold for 200+. Later will be less worth. I'm happy with that move and ready for another 3 years of no upgrade needed. Its just to know right time to upgrade. 150£ for 4 generations its nice price. I would upgrade if I ware you.
